Photo Interview with Jennifer Denys

Exquisite Quills Welcomes Jennifer Denys

EQ: Welcome to EQ! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Thank you for letting me loose on your blog! I am a bestselling author in various genre (BDSM, contemporary, sci-fi, and paranormal, with historical and fantasy in my works-in-progress) with several different publishers. An Englishwoman through and through, I live in a beautiful historical city, and I’m game to try most things once. I’ve had a tattoo done on my calf, flown down zip wires 100 feet up in the trees, and was photographed nude by a professional photographer. All of which have taken place since I turned 50! Many of my experiences end up in my books… but you will have to read them to find out what!

EQ: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

‘Kink After Dinner’ is my first book with a new publisher, Luminosity Publishing. It is about a middle age woman throwing off her inhibitions and trying new experiences and is out on 5 September available from various distributors including Luminosity Publishing and Amazon.

Here is the blurb:

Kink After Dinner.
8pm. Usual place.
Wear the new purple basque – no knickers.
Expect some SERIOUS (!) paddling. No touching until then.
Master.

Beth hurriedly hides the note she has received so her family won’t see it.

Her daughter regards her parents as stuck in the mud. If only she knew!  When Beth decided to throw off her inhibitions she was able to thoroughly enjoy her middle years, despite the usual body issues, including attending a BDSM event and starting a relationship with a Dom.

Putting on her purple bustier and high heels as ordered, and covering up with a coat, she leaves her husband engrossed in his carpentry workshop to walk to a neighbour’s house. This is the home of swinging couple, Alistair and Helen, with whom she’s had several encounters over the past year. And this begins a wonderful evening of kink—bondage, spanking, paddling, handcuffs, and orgasm denial.

Then her husband turns up.

I had great fun with ‘Kink After Dinner’ writing about a heroine of a similar age to me, so I was able to include my own feelings of being middle age – like the fact that my middle age spread enabled me to finally have a decent cleavage after years of being skinny! Unfortunately this also meant the stomach expanded. So for my 50thbirthday I had some ‘boudoir’ photos taken to prove I could still be desirable despite body issues and I discovered a basque is great for holding the stomach in (which the heroine in the story also notes!). I was very pleased with the outcome to the photos which were taken by a firm called Mighty Aphrodite in the UK.

Handcuffs are used in the story and are featured on the front cover of ‘Kink After Dinner’. I frequently buy
an implement and try it out before writing about it so that I can put myself in the shoes of the main characters and know how they experience it. However, when I first bought the handcuffs, I was eager to try them out and couldn’t wait until the following day for the person I was going to use them with so I locked one on my right hand…… and then I couldn’t get it off!!!! As I am very right handed, I struggled to turn the key with my left hand. I was beginning to panic, thinking I would have to go to the fire station to get them cut off, when I discovered there was a latch at the side that one could depress to release them. Phew!

A red rose is significant to both the story and to me. You will have to read the story to find out where a rose comes in. All I can say is that it is not a real one! As for me, I use a red rosebud as my logo on promotional items and I also have a red rose tattoo on my calf (every year I try to do one thing that is exciting, adventurous, or outside my comfort zone and this year I had a tattoo on my calf by the lovely people at Ruby Arts in York)

Yes, this is a plate of strawberries! LOL. The title of ‘Kink After Dinner’ came from a friend who said this in conversation and I thought, “What a great idea for a title.” So I came up with the story to fit the title.  Food, is relevant, though, as the main characters, at the end, talk about going for a ‘Dinner Weekend’ at Lindsay Park Manor… which is going to be the setting for a series set in an English country mansion which holds BDSM events. ‘Dinner’ in this case does not involve eating off a plate… Use your imagination!

Fabulous piece, Jennifer. I look foward to reading your new book, Kink After Dinner. What a shock, not being able to remove the handcuffs, but you managed to avoid an embarrasing situation in the end. :)
