First Kiss Wednesday

Kisses are the mainstay of romance writing.  No matter how sweet or spicy our stories are, they usually involve at least a kiss or two.  And the first kiss is especially lovely - that first, soft touch of lips - or perhaps the kiss is fierce and hungry.  Maybe the characters murmur words of love or words of teasing while discovering the texture and taste of each other.  Maybe the only sounds they can emit are gentle, timorous moans or deep, throaty groans.

Okay, now that we've set the premise, here's what you can do for First Kiss Wednesdays.  In the comment box, give us a maximum of 300 words of the first kiss of a published work or a work-in-progress and one link to your website or blog or Amazon Author Page.

Read and luxuriate in the glories of the first kiss...

Oh, and lips only...  ;-)

I'll Be Your Last - beware, this is an M/M erotic romance about two gay Chicago cops...

Woody’s heart beat so hard and fast he was afraid he might be sick before they could even do anything. It was strange and unnerving to be heading into his house, heading for what would undoubtedly be hot sex in the bright light of morning. Their walk was sedate on the outside until the door slammed shut. Mack shoved Woody’s shoulders against the wood and took his mouth in a violent firestorm of a kiss.

Yes! This was what he’d wanted from the very first. He wanted all that considerable masculine, testosterone-driven passion. He wanted Mack’s strong, sure tongue exploring his mouth. Sliding his fingers under the knit cap, he flipped it off, his gaze settling on the thick, black hair. Putting palms to hard chest, Woody pushed away, his voice cracking. “I wondered what was under that cap. Thought maybe you were bald.”

“No, not bald.” Mack sounded confused. He cradled Woody’s head, thumbs at his jaw joints controlling his movements. His lips tantalized, their smooth surface demanding surrender, Mack’s tongue spearing combatively against his as if this was war.

He might have sounded confused, but he sure knew how to kiss. Mack’s voice wended its sizzling way through Woody’s body. He tunneled frenzied fingers through the surprisingly soft hair—it looked unkempt but was shiny clean—lifting it off Mack’s scalp, gripping the strands tightly. When Mack groaned in response and re-angled their heads to take the kiss even deeper, Woody tightened his fingers and yanked sharply, adding a groan of his own. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

“No. What?”

“Never mind.” Placing a palm on Mack’s chest, he pushed. Tried to, anyway. Woody couldn’t take his eyes off him. Here, in the privacy of his home, he could finally focus on the harsh, rugged, gorgeous face surrounded by the wealth of thick, black, disheveled hair. Mack looked primitive, caveman-like, and mesmerized Woody with the stunning depths of his deep-blue eyes. He yearned to start at the top and explore every inch of the man all the way down to his toes.

In the day before Halloween, I offer a bit from book2 of The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo -- a story about an ancient Native American shaman trying to build a new life in a modern and ofttimes confusing world. In these scene, my new lovers discover hot water tanks only hold so much hot water.
................................................
She turned around to face him. Locked in their embrace, they kissed long and lovingly under the spray, then quickly broke apart with a gasp. The water had suddenly gone cold. Between her bath and who-knows-how-long under the shower love-making, they’d used up all the hot water. Quickly washing away traces of their coupling, she breathlessly explained, “It’ll get even colder than this if we don’t hurry, we’ve used up all the hot water in the tank.”

Tank. Ash silently repeated the unknown word. He hadn’t considered there’d be a limited supply of hot water. He hadn’t yet determined where water in these homes came from, and he added that to the growing list of things he must learn as a man of this world.

Wrapping a towel around herself, Livie grinned. “I’m hungry now. How about you? I make a mean omelet.” The instant the words left her, she saw the flicker of confusion in his eyes. It occurred to her then that the language barrier was even higher than she’d thought. Before she’d thought his speech belonged to someone living on the rez and long isolated from outside influence. Now that she knew how ancient he was, it surprised her he could communicate with her at all. She assured him, “You’ll like it.”

“If you like it, I’ll like it.”

Once in the theme room, Beau closed the door and turned to Sandy. He took her in his arms for a searing kiss. She whimpered when he lifted his head. He dropped his voice into the Dom range and said, “Strip and assume the position, sub. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for days. I don’t know what it is about you that intrigues me so much, but I’m going to find out.”
“Yes, Master.” She proceeded to remove her dress and high heels and dropped to her knees with thighs spread. He gently moved her knees a little more. He could see it made her uncomfortable to be so open to him. Before the night was over, he planned to have invaded Ms. Sinclair’s private space multiple times in every way he could think of.

From the first of my Bloomington Series: Quotable
-------------------------------------
Irritation filled Rick, noting the dark storefront and the hour Genna Lyndsey heedlessly took for granted. It seemed an unnecessary risk, loaded down with her purse and another bag. Probably filled with books, he surmised, her back to the street. Hell, there was a building under construction just across the damn street. Rain fell in a gentle mist.
“Where is your partner?” he snapped.
“She went home hours ago,” she said cheerfully.
His jaw clenched with an unnatural exasperation.
“Is something wrong? I’m no expert, but you seem a little out of sorts.”
“I just drove up to get some coffee next door and I see you locking up your store with no regard to personal safety.” He encroached her personal space to make his point—certainly not for the sweet fragrance of wild honeysuckle. He breathed deep.
“Oh.” He saw her steel herself against the surge of emotions assaulting her when she turned and met his angry gaze. The stiffening of her spine, the deep pools of her eyes, color indiscernible under the night sky. Her gaze measured him intently through the black sturdy glasses. “‘I cannot think well enough to be intelligible,’” she whispered, her delicious mouth parting slightly. It was all the invitation he needed. He blamed the wild honeysuckle.
Without so much as a second thought, he moved his mouth over hers in a slow deliberation, allowing her almost ample time to step back should she have wished. It didn’t matter that the door was to her back and she had nowhere to step back to.
Definitely, the wild honeysuckle. It drove him wild with desire. Just the feeling of her timorous nature kept him from devouring her outright, tempting as it was. His tongue touched her lips in a feathery motion, drinking in sweetness so pure he wanted to fall to his knees. He pulled her slight body into his.
A sharp pain hit his leg. He grunted and broke the kiss, making the break as painful as the pain in his leg. He glanced down. She’d dropped everything she’d been holding, her hands clutching the front of his shirt. Her cheeks were flushed. With hunger? Need?
She seemed at a loss as to what to do next. He stifled an urge to smile, irritation dissolving for the moment.
He grasped her hands gently, surprised by the rising desire to safeguard her. Resisting the appeal to reclaim her mouth, he tugged them from his shirt. Kneeling down, he gathered the spilled belongings. Just as he suspected, he’d been besieged with books.

I'm happy to report, the 3rd book is now available through Smashwords and Amazon. Lies That Bind. In any event, I hope you enjoy this first book's excerpt.

This first kiss scene is from my time travel romance, Thoroughly Modern Amanda, from both the hero and heroine's point of view.

Excerpt:
Amanda gasped. “You can’t be serious.” She lifted both hands to her mouth. “What a wonderful place to live!” She dropped her gaze and twisted her hands in her skirts. “But I’m sure with all those modern women to choose from, you’d have no interest in an old-fashioned girl like me.”
“Amanda…” Jack took both her hands in his. “I’ve never met anyone like you. When I first saw your photo—”
“My photo?” She frowned. “Where did you see it?”
“It was in the house where you found me, but in the future. It was hanging on the wall at the bottom of the stairs.”
“In the house Randolph is building?” Her lower lip trembled.
Jack leaned forward, unable to stop himself, and lightly brushed his lips over hers. She tasted sweet, like cinnamon and sugar.
She reared back, her lips in a firm line, but then opened, as he enfolded her pliant body in his arms. He stroked his hands around her back and pulled her as close as possible. Her heart beat swiftly, like a delicate, caged bird.
The kiss rocked him to his core. Although he’d dreamed of kissing those lush lips, the reality was so much better. An ache formed in his chest at the thought of going home and never seeing her again.
He finally released her. Her eyes looked a bit glazed, her lips swollen and her hair mussed. He bit his lip, wondering what reception they’d get at supper.
****
Amanda’s knees weakened as a thrill raced through her body. No man had ever kissed her like that. Of course, she hadn’t had much opportunity with other men. And had never allowed Randolph to get so close.
She gazed into Jack’s eyes. His lips twisted into an adorable half-smile, his eyes bright, face flushed. Had he felt the same thing she had?
“Are you okay, Amanda?” His smile turned down into a frown.
“I-I think so.” She touched her lips, the sensation of his pressed against hers still with her. She was also very aware of his male scent. If she didn’t fear someone would discover them, she’d fling her arms around him for another round of kisses.

An excerpt from Autumn Masquerade by Gemma Juliana

His lips came down softly onto hers as he wrapped her in his arms.

Overcome with shyness at first, she opened up to him as his warmth and strength filtered through the kiss.

Yearning and desire transformed the kiss into a hot promise of what lay ahead as her lips parted, and he probed and tasted her sweetness.

“And now, Belle Helene, I insist that we share a dance before the ball ends. Otherwise you will have to dress as Cinderella and I will be The Prince, and I’ll chase you down with a glass slipper in hand.”

From FOREWARNING by Kate Wyland

After a slight hesitation, she rested her head against his lean chest, seeking a closeness she had been denied for the last year.

He cradled her close, his arms tightening around her. After a few minutes, he raised his hands to her head, one hand burrowing under her thick hair and the other tilting her chin up to meet his gaze. Taking his time, he bent and brushed his lips on hers. At her quick intake of breath, he kissed her again lingering and exploring the contours of her lips with his tongue.

Her mouth opened and their tongues entwined in an ancient, sensuous dance. Bodies lightly touching, they learned each other’s taste with their tongues and lips alone. An eternity later, they drew apart breathing heavily.

“Wow.” Jim rested his forehead on hers, his arms still embracing her.

“Agreed.” After a moment, she took a step back, trying to pull herself together and understand what she’d just experienced. TJ’s kisses elicited a hot, quick flash of desire. Her response to Jim was different. Desire was there for sure, and so was a whole lot more. That more scared her.

From "Werewolves in the Kitchen" in the "Wild Shifters" Anthology from Jupiter Gardens Press:

Blurb:
When Ellie moved to the SpiralStone retreat center to figure out her life, she expected peace, quiet, and spiritual practice. She had no idea that the two sexy men running the kitchen would seduce her…much less at the same time. Kyle and Jake turn out to be wilder than they seem and Ellie finds herself wrapped up in devastating magic. She must choose: stay with Jake and Kyle and risk who she has been, accepting the dangerous world of shapeshifters? Or leave them and risk madness, or worse?

Scene:

Ellie sniffed her silk hair band. “You should smell this thing; I don’t know if it smells more like creek water or my sweat.”

She looked up, surprised by the sudden silence in the room, and her jaw dropped a little. The two men were suddenly looking at her like hungry wolves. Ellie felt like a cornered deer.

Kyle stepped closer and drew the silk to his nose. “Hmmm, not sure,” he said, and moved to her side, scenting her hair. “Seems to smell more like you. Jake?” He looked up, and the men shared some look between them.

Ellie was tongue-tied. They had to be teasing her.

Jake moved in front of her, and she trembled as he sniffed her hair band and then her hair. “Yes, definitely like you.”

“Yes,” Kyle murmured, nuzzling her neck. She was panting. Kyle growled and pulled back. Ellie made a soft sound. “Are you ok?”
“Do you want us to stop?” Jake murmured.

She shook her head and then gasped when Kyle kissed her neck. Jake stroked her cheek and kissed her lips gently at first, and when she moaned he pulled her closer. Kyle lapped at her neck, nipping now, slipping his hands over her breasts, and Jake was making love to her mouth with deep velvet strokes of his tongue.

She moaned weakly feeling Kyle behind her, his hard heat rubbing against her buttocks, and felt Jake in front of her, pulling her close against his hips. Kyle slipped his fingers into her shirt to tease at her nipples, and she leaned back against him, bucking into his touch. Kyle drew the straps of her cami-top down even as Jake started dragging her shirt up.

She pulled back to breathe, and Jake stroked her cheek, nibbling at the other side of her neck. “Come with us….”
