First Kiss Wednesday

It's  First Kiss Wednesday!

Kisses are the mainstay of romance writing.  No matter how sweet or spicy our stories are, they usually involve at least a kiss or two.  And the first kiss is especially lovely - that first, soft touch of lips - or perhaps the kiss is fierce and hungry.  Maybe the characters murmur words of love or words of teasing while discovering the texture and taste of each other.  Maybe the only sounds they can emit are gentle, timorous moans or deep, throaty groans.
Okay, now that we've set the premise, here's what you can do for First Kiss Wednesdays.  In the comment box, give us a maximum of 300 words of the first kiss of a published work or a work-in-progress and one link to your website or blog or Amazon Author Page.
Read and luxuriate in the glories of the first kiss...

Oh, and lips only...  ;-)

From Taking a Chance (Doctors of Rittenhouse Square, #2):

Within seconds, he had retrieved a key that was apparently stored there, unlocked the door, and tugged her inside.

“So much for safety,” she muttered, not sure whether to be alarmed or relieved at his expedient solution.

“This isn’t Philadelphia,” he reminded her, pocketing the key and kicking the door shut behind them. His hands gripped her hips and he pulled her flush against him, breasts to chest. “But if you feel strongly about it, we can find a less obvious hiding place.”

His mouth descended on hers, swallowing whatever reply she might have made. She parted her lips, welcoming the invasion of his tongue. Breaths mingled. Her fingers trembled as she ran them up his arms, over the hard biceps and deltoids that stretched the soft cotton of his T-shirt.

His hands cupped her buttocks, bringing her in closer, until she was standing on her toes, her pelvis grinding against his erection.
She slid her fingers up the back of his neck, into his hair. With whatever remnants of good sense she still had, she tugged lightly, and then harder, until their mouths broke apart.

“Wait,” she panted. “The phone.”

“Let it ring,” he said, brushing his lips across her jaw, and down her neck.

“No, I mean I have to call the service.” She arched away, putting more distance between them. “Let them know to forward calls here. I’m on for emergencies. Twenty-four/seven, remember?”

He groaned, dropping his forehead to hers. His fingers flexed, then loosened. “Do it.”

First kiss from my new medieval romance 'Bride for a Champion'.
As Alice spoke she was moving, but so was he. When she stumbled at the very start of her headlong dash back up the garden, he caught her, clutching her tight. He was afraid for an instant that she would fall flat on her face in her haste to escape him.
She squirmed in his grip, as fast and furious as an angry falcon bobbing and bating on a hunter’s wrist, struggling with its jesses. “Release me, raptor!”
The insult burned him—he who had seen so many women raped and murdered at the fall of Constantinople and been unable to save them. “I am none such,” he began, through gritted teeth, breaking off as he felt her attempting to unwind his fingers off her waist.
Almost as if she sensed his attention she stopped at once and looked straight into his face, her eyes as bright as eastern jade. “If you were a true gentleman, you would let me go.”
“I am a mercenary.”
Without a flicker, she returned, “As a Christian, you should not treat me so rudely.”
What did she know of what one Christian might do to another? But he would not back down. If he was to marry this salamander then she must learn, and the lesson would begin now, whether he stank of horse or not.
He tightened his grip around her narrow waist, crossing his hands in the small of her back. As he inhaled her lavender scent and felt her lissome body mold against his, he was dimly aware of her standing up on her tip-toes. Before he realized what she was about, she had kissed him first.
He was so startled by the sudden tender sweetness of her mouth that he sighed, bringing a hand up now to smooth a tendril of her hair away from her sun-warmed cheek. She tasted of sugar cone and honey and, he fancied, cherries, although that might only be wishful thinking.
Her kiss went on, slow and sure, an instant of gentleness when he had known few such moments in his life, glowing in his mind like a rare flower or book. Her eyes were closed as she gave herself in her kiss and he closed his eyes, too, relishing the contact where their breaths mingled and their lips touched and touched and touched…
“Women can also kiss,” she murmured.

From: RESCUE MY HEART (Mahattan Dinner Club, Book 1)
Her pulse jumped as he closed his arms around her. She turned to flatten her palm against his bare chest. Moisture gathered between her legs. She wanted him. Peering up at him through her lashes, she saw him stare at her chest, which was almost totally visible through her drenched white tank top and bra.
His gaze moved to her lips. She moistened them, then slid her hand up to rest on his shoulder. She pressed into him slightly with her fingertips. The feel of his skin sent her heartbeat into overdrive. I want to be up against him, skin to skin. He pulled her up, bringing her face close to his. His mouth was down on hers in a second.
She opened for his hungry kiss, and he devoured her. Hack flipped them over so that Rory was lying on the floor and he was on top of her. She twined her arms around his neck and opened her legs for him to lie between. His tongue danced with hers until neither could breathe. He buried his face in her neck, kissing her while he reached up and closed his fingers over her xxxxxx. She moaned at his touch, her eyes closing, her hips rising to meet his.
As he was slipping his hand under her wet shirt, the buzzer sounded. The loud noise caused them to jump apart. Rory put the back of her hand to her bruised lips. Hack’s chest heaved with uneven breathing. The buzzer sounded again. Rory pushed to her feet, wobbling a bit as she pressed the intercom.
“Who is it?” Her eyes met Hack’s hot stare.

From A RANCHER'S WOMAN

This is actually, the hero's first kiss when he returns to the Coleman Ranch and it is NOT his child Malene is carrying.

Malene nodded. The other men in the house seemed to ignore her condition as if they dare not speak about it, but Many Feathers came to her and placed his hands on her belly.

"Where are the feet?"

"I think in my back. This is not easy for me."

"Your cheeks glow, but you look sad. I do not understand." He held her in his arms and kissed her."

"Ah, hem!" Mrs. Coleman said, as she entered the room. "No kissing."

Many Feathers grinned at the woman with the single long braid that fell over her shoulder. Then he kissed Mrs. Coleman on the cheek. "Kissing is good. It shows honor."

"Not in this house!" She frowned at him, but the sparkle in her eyes said that she was pleased to see him.

"That is sad. So how do you know that I am happy to be here?"

"A smile is sufficient." She turned, and as she left the room she said, "No kissing."

Malene and Adie giggled.

"Frank and I are always in trouble for kissing. I like being kissed. But I don't think Frank would like you kissing me. He would get jealous and think that I like you better than him."

Many Feathers' smile broadened. "I will let only Frank kiss you, then there are no problems. You do not want a jealous husband."

"Tell us about your ranch," Adie begged.

"I will, but I must tend to my horse and see Mr. Joseph Coleman first."

Malene watched as he left. His hands on her belly felt wonderful. His lips on hers felt wonderful. Everything about him was wonderful. She didn't want him to leave the room. She could barely pack up her sewing as her hands shook with pure joy.

Rebeka Spearman is sent as a hostage to the Governor of Tusteya while he and her father prepare a peace treaty. All her life Rebeka has been taught to fear the governor but she finds him not only personable, handsome, but only a few years older than she.

“Please, don’t fear me.”
“Don’t fear you?” She took a step back, looking up at him as if his
words were absurd. “You’re the Governor of Tusteya. You and your people have enslaved and fought mine for over thirty years. I’m afraid it’ll take a considerable amount of kindness on
your part to make that happen.”
“Let me say you’re hiding your fear admirably.” He stepped back,
putting space between, as if that might make her feel more at east.
He held out his hand, and she took it without hesitation, and when
he smiled at that, she smiled back. They continued to walk. They were behind the high hedge, now, out of sight of the android. Philip glanced towards the terrace. He couldn’t see Darius and he was certain the robot wasn’t able to see them, either.
Without warning, he caught her by the arms, pulled her towards
him and kissed her, thinking as he did it, Fool! Idiot! She’ll call for Darius and he’ll pound you into the ground and you’ll lose your life and your chance to make peace just because you’re getting a hormonal itch for Spearman’s daughter.
But she didn’t move, didn’t fight, didn’t do anything as he pressed
his mouth against hers. All he felt was her warm breath floating gently onto his tongue. When he released her, Rebeka’s hand went to her mouth. She was breathing in little gasps.
“I know I shouldn’t have done that,” he began, thinking he’d better
ward off the hysterics he expected.
“You’re the first man who’s ever kissed me.”
He was startled at her tone. Oh God, is that awe? Since she didn’t
appear to be about to yell for her bodyguard, he asked, “Then may I also be the second?” and kissed her again.

This excerpt if from VAMPIRES ARE FOREVER. Everyone oin Balleywalegh thinks Karel Novotny is a vampire because he's living in the manor house once owned by a known vampire and he has the same name. Brigid Flannery isn't of the opinion, however, as this scene, in the front seat of Karel's Stutz Bearcat sportscar shows.

“Brigid, do you like me?”
“O’ course I do.” She turned a coy gaze on him, actually
fluttering her lashes.
“Well, I like you.” He found he was suddenly breathless.
“I’m glad o’ that.” She looked amused.
“No, I mean I like you... More than like really.” He’d
always considered himself so masterful when it came to
speaking, but suddenly he couldn’t say what he wanted to.
“I... I’d like to kiss you.” He placed a hand on her neck,
thumb stroking gently up and down the soft surface of her
skin.
“Do you know what I like?” Her eyes met his without
blinking.
“What?” He was startled by that direct stare.
“A man who does somethin’ instead o’ just talkin’ about
it.” She shut her eyes, pursing her lips... those luscious,
pink lips...
So he pulled her toward him, leaned forward and kissed
her. The damned brake lever was in the way and he had to
clamber onto the seat and somehow lean over it to reach
her. As he pressed his lips to Brigid’s, Karel was silently
cursing the designer of the Stutz and wishing he had put the
bloody thing anywhere else. He lost his balance, falling
forward so he was partially reclining on the seat as well as
on Brigid, his free hand braced against the inside of the
passenger door. Well, the brake lever would keep any
action below his waist from happening, anyway, which,
considering the way he was feeling about the girl, might be
a good thing. In the midst of the lustful feelings trying to
erupt, he had to stifle a desire to laugh. Hell of a condom...
all iron and steel and hydraulic tubing.

It’s release week for Hearts over Bellham – Two Bellham Romance Valentine’s Short Stories - $0.99. This is an excerpt from the first story:

Bellham was famous for its strings of chiming bells over Main Street during the holiday season. They made Christmas extra magical. The lighted hearts were affecting Tim in a similar way.

Valentine’s magic.

“They’re beautiful,” Hillary said.

Tim turned to face Hillary. He brushed a lock of windblown hair off her cheek. “You’re beautiful, Hil,” he said quietly. “Brave and beautiful.” He bent, touching her nose with his.

Hillary’s eyelids flew open wide. She drew in a quick breath, and then closed her eyes.

His lips brushed hers. Once. Twice. Her lips were soft, pliant, and tasted of strawberry lip balm, orange scone, and coffee.

Tim’s heartbeat quickened. His skin vibrated. His body warmed. He pressed his lips to hers again, with more pressure this time. He wanted to keep kissing her. But not here. Not now. There were too many other people on the street.

Reluctantly, he pulled back.

From Midwinter Crises, a speculative romance by my alter ego ML Skye, I'm sharing a lip lock between Murph and Jess.

~*~

Sitting up in bed, he looked down at her. "Are you asking me to move in?"

"No, you idiot. I'm saying you already live here. Why not call it home?" She fisted her hand in his t-shirt and tugged him down on top of her. "It's stupid to pay for a place that acts as a storage unit for your stuff. Oh, and somewhere to have your mail delivered." She tilted her chip up, bringing her lips to his for a quick kiss before she pulled the shirt up and over his head.

And then her hands were on his skin, kneading his back, skimming his sides, tugging him down for mind-numbing kisses. Her lips burned a trail from his shoulder to his mouth. Her tongue slipped in, teasing his. She moved her hips up and down, writhing against him, building tension.

His cotton boxers didn't offer much of a barrier against the heat she generated. And her mouth nipped, licked and sucked wherever it could reach.

He could do the same.

Her thin camisole couldn't hide the pebbled tips of her nipples and Ben lowered his head to flick his tongue across one pointed peak. He started to pull the bodice down but Jess grabbed the hem and tugged it up and off. Then she put her mouth back on his skin.

He followed suit and mimicked each kiss. Each lick and drag of tongue. Each nip and scrape of teeth. During the sensual smorgasbord, he managed to remove her panties and work his boxers down and off. Coming up on his elbows, he settled between her thighs.

This is the first kiss from Risk Factors, my book in limbo while the contract for re-release is pending. This is my wonderful mediflight EMT-P and his lady veterinarian after their first date.

“Thank you for a lovely time.” Her hands fluttered and then fell silent at her sides, as
though at a loss for words, even as her mouth spoke.
“I had a nice time, too. Hearing about your journeys… I didn’t travel at all growing up.
You made me feel like I was there when you talked about Spain and Africa.” Hell, growing up in
foster care for five of his first twelve years hadn’t allowed for any adventures, outside of
avoiding the back of his next abusive foster parent’s hand. Viv’s life was one golden moment
after another, and she made it sound like eating at a mainland restaurant in Midwestern USA
with him was special.
“I’d have rather had a stable home and constant friends.” She shrugged and smiled at
him. “I did have a good time tonight. And--I’m sorry if I said anything that upset you. I didn’t
mean to.”
“As I said, Janna has school and I didn’t mean to stay out so late.”
“That’s understandable. Will you tell her hello for me? Let her know I’d love to meet her
other pets soon.” Viv stuffed the key into the lock, and opened the door.
She hesitated momentarily over the threshold. Spinning around before he could step out
of her way, she connected face to shoulder with Connor, nearly knocking him down as he held
the door.
“Sorry,” she mumbled, and backed away.
He clamped his free hand over her upper arm to steady himself. As soon as he regained
composure she met his gaze and rocked him again, but emotionally this time.
Her teeth drew her lower lip in, then released it. “I…I didn’t mean…I meant, I hope to
meet Janna’s pets--in a healthy way. Not that they get sick so she will bring them to my clinic.”
“I know what you meant, Viv. I’ll give Jell--Janna the message.”
Suddenly, she was far too close, far too warm…far too female.
Connor cleared his throat before risking those eyes again. He stood still, one hand on her
arm. He slowly let it slide toward her hand, the touch light and sensuous.
He recognized her struggle for a natural response, but words froze as his gaze met and
held hers, his hand still on her wrist. He noticed the distance between them closing slowly but to
move, to widen the gap, seemed an impossibility. Not that he wanted to, if he was completely
honest. Since meeting her, he’d dreamed of how her kiss might feel and taste. Now, despite her
lack of parental desires, he couldn’t resist finding out.
Then his mouth was inches from hers and her lashes lowered…closer.
An electrical charge echoed in his mind as their lips touched lightly. Fuzzy images of him
holding her, never ending the kiss, flitted through his mind. But he had to end it or lose his
sanity.
He whispered softly in her ear as he released her wrist, “Good night, Vivian.”

MARSHAL IN PETTICOATS- Book One in the Halsey Brothers Series

“Sure you could.” He chucked her under the chin and started to move away.
Darcy grabbed his shirt, pulling him around to look at her. “I can take care of myself. I have for several years.” She didn’t know why, but his comment and condescending attitude struck a chord of defiance in her.
“Now, don’t go getting all in a fluster. I’m sure you’ve stayed out of trouble by the skin of your teeth. But you were a kid then. You’ve become a woman.” He put a hand on her cheek. “A beautiful woman.” His gaze dropped to her exposed chest.
A scorching wave of heat started at her middle and flared out to her fingers and toes.
“You have no idea what these men around here would do to you if they had the chance.” His thumb moved back and forth, caressing her cheek.
“W-w-what would they do to me?” She barely heard herself mumble the sentence over the beating of her heart. His gaze turned dark. Only this time a glimmer of something other than violence flickered in his intense stare.
He stepped closer and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her against his long body. His head dipped, and his lips brushed hers.
Her body pressed against him, yearning to feel his strength. He bent closer, lifting her onto her toes. She wound her arms around his neck to keep from melting into the floor. His lips moved urgently over hers. Waves of sensations rushed through her eager body. He grasped her tighter. His hands moved up and down her back, then down over her hips, tracing the contours.
“That is not proper behavior for one of my girls.”
A stinging blow slashed Darcy’s bare shoulder, and she turned from Gil, gasping for air.

This book is available in ebook at all ebook venues and will soon be in Print and audio.

This is Zekin and Paige's first kiss in STOLEN DESIRE - available March 11

Her mouth trembled. “Would you mind holding me for a second? Just a second, until I can calm—”

His embrace interrupted her plea.

With her arms wreathed around his neck, Paige nuzzled close, her face against his shoulder. Whimpers poured from her, sounding both relieved and embarrassed. Zekin wanted to assure her there was no need for shame. However, the right words, ones that would soothe, were beyond him. She was a woman filled with emotions he’d been trained to ignore and deny.

How could he do so now?

Her hair smelled of something sweet, a plant from her side, perhaps. Each time she breathed, her erect nipples pressed into his chest. Zekin’s body reacted as any man’s would, his blood growing heated, his cock thickening. Physiological changes he understood when it came to simple lust. However, the emotions bombarding him continued to stun. Not only did he experience a primitive urge to protect her, as he would any human, but also to matter to her as a man should to a woman. To be wanted, valued, cherished.

Everything he’d never known and had a small glimpse of now.

Her caress provided an abundance of comfort that Zekin found enchanting, suddenly requiring it as much as she seemed to. He rested his cheek against her silky hair, inhaling deeply of its wondrous fragrance, so unknown on his plane where everything was sterile and precise, perfection without passion. Without thinking, reacting only as a man responding to a woman, he brushed his lips over her temple.

A velvety sound poured from her that called to everything male within Zekin and offered encouragement. Closeness that couldn’t be denied. Intimacy that restored.

He slipped his fingers beneath her chin and lifted it so she had to look at him. Her eyes sparkled, the honey-colored irises flecked with brown and green. A pink flush darkened her cheeks. She parted her lips. An invitation?

Zekin didn’t want to ask. He took a chance and claimed.

She yielded, her lips’ sweet heat and cushiony softness more than Zekin could resist. On a helpless groan, he angled his head and slipped his tongue inside her mouth. His kiss tender, imploring that she accept him. She did immediately, with an appreciative purr, suckling his tongue, drawing him into her.

UPON YOUR RETURN, book one of the Heiresses in Love series.

“Now, Fara, I am sure you must attend to your duties as I must to mine.” He grasped for her hand and lifted it to his lips. “Perhaps we will meet again, Mademoiselle...”
Like a perfect gentleman, she thought, and was grateful he hadn't done something impulsive.
“Oui, Monsieur. Perhaps we will. I bid you farewell, Capitaine Hill.”
He released her hand, and she turned to go, but with a sudden tight grasp of her wrist, he reeled her back. Crushing her against the wall of his chest, Grant covered her lips with his. It was too late to pull away for he held her against him and Fara was lost in the sensation of his kiss.
Lord, if she'd found the man aesthetically pleasing, his kiss was so much more. She parted her lips on a sigh as he burned her, igniting a fire deep inside in her body.
She had no time to respond to him completely though. Before she knew it, he'd set her away from him. Gasping for breath, she searched his eyes, expecting to see something akin to triumph. There was only brightness. The deep and dark charcoal she'd witnessed before turned soft and subtle, appearing as the land when the sun comes up and light spills to the ground, staining every surface and contour.
Fara cleared her throat again, aware that propriety should have mandated she slap him, but she couldn't muster the will to do it. “Goodbye, Grant,” she whispered as she made her way down the gangway to the ground below. Pierre assisted her into the carriage and she turned to stare up at the tall figure of Grant Hill. She wondered if he really was pleased to see her go. Certainly a kiss like that could only mean the opposite.
