Author Interview: Aimee Brissay

Exquisite Quills Welcomes Aimée Brissay

EQ: Welcome to EQ! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Aimee: I guess you could say I'm a thirty year old dreamer. I'm not talking about hoping to get rich and famous or to win the lottery, because I'd lie if I said that thought never crossed my mind. But that's not what I meant. I'm the kind of dreamer who lives the perfect life, filled with joy and adventures. In my mind, I've traveled the world, seen all the wonderful places I could have hoped for and met all sorts of interesting people. Too bad more often than not real life stands in the way of my fantasies.

EQ: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

Aimee: That would  Daring Adam. It's the first part of a vampire series called Taking Chances, a MMM menage. We have Darien, an old and powerful vampire, and Zephyr, his incubus lover. Life is beautiful. They have each other, Darien is the master of Bucharest, unchallenged for decades and Zephyr has his business. What could possible go wrong? But all of a sudden, all hell breaks loose. Bodies are left in silent challenge for Darien to find and an unknown enemy threatens his cozy life. And on top of everything there is Adam, the fledgling that appears out of nowhere and takes up residence in Darien and Zephyr's hearts.

EQ: What made you want to become a writer?

Aimee: I've always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was little. I used to read all these great books (every single one of them was great for me back then), that took me all around the world. Great characters living exciting lives and half the time I was torn between wishing to be them and having written their stories in the first place. Of course, would I have done that, the books would have been totally different and not nearly as good.

EQ: Describe how you came up with the plot of your novel.

Aimee: Usually, I come up with an element, or even a character I like, and I devise a plot around it. For Daring Adam I came up with the title first. I had no idea what the story or the characters would be like, but I had a title I really liked and I wanted to bring it to life. I have to say, it turned to out to be a lot more difficult than I was expecting. And guess what?  I'm probably a masochist, because I'm doing the exact same thing for book two of the series.

EQ: If your novel was adapted into a movie and won an Oscar for best screenplay, what would you say in your acceptance speech?

Aimee: I love this question. Not in a million years would I have thought if asking this.
I would love to thank my parents for offering me all the books I could possibly want. My friends for putting up with my disappearing act whenever I felt the need to write and I have to admire their never ending patience with me because I'm pulling Houdinis more often than not. And my cats, for bringing me all sorts of interesting gifts in the form of live lizards, frogs and mice whenever I need cheering up.

The Genesis of a Book - Second Chance by Martha O'Sullivan #equills

I could say that the genesis of Second Chance and my Chances trilogy started when, at the privilege of a family friend, I discovered Lake Tahoe over a decade ago. But its conception probably occurred long before that. As an only child, books were my default playmates. And if a novel ended abruptly or I found the conclusion unsatisfactory, I would simply continue the story in my head. So I could attribute the trilogy’s origin to fate, kismet, or the luck of the draw.  But it’s more seminal than that. It really started in my childhood imagination.

In those days our imaginations had little competition for our attention. There were only a few television stations, no video games and the computer of today was a thing of science fiction. My imagination could soar infinitely. Characters, layered in observation and steeped in expectation were formed with each new acquaintance. The framework of a story was subtlety built as innocence became experience and naivety became discernment. And a serendipitous cross county trip in my affecting teenage years started a love affair with California, a frisson that continues thirty years later and provided the perfect backdrop for it all to come together.  I hope my Chances trilogy will take you there. And you’ll leave a little piece of your heart behind too.

Martha O’Sullivan’s Chances trilogy is available now from Red Sage Publishing. Second Chance, the trilogy opener, is a reunion/love triangle romance that keeps the shores of Lake Tahoe blazing hot long after the sultry summer sun has set. Chance Encounter, the trilogy's second installment, heats up San Francisco’s chilly days and blustery nights with white-hot passion and pulse-pounding suspense. And in Last Chance, the conclusion of the trilogy, lifelong friends-turned-lovers melt the snow-packed Sierras into lust-fueled puddles despite the single-digit temperatures of the Lake Tahoe winter.

Here’s a blurb from Second Chance:

Lindsay Foster has convinced herself that marrying lifelong Paul Webster is the right thing to do. But an inadvertent reunion with Brian Rembrandt rekindles the unfinished business between them. And Lindsay finds herself torn between the life she's always wanted and the man she'll always love.

Brian's up for that fight; he's used to getting what he wants. And he still wants Lindsay.

But this love triangle has an extra side. Lindsay's best friend Moira Brody has a game-changing secret.  And she's not the only one.  Even Brian is no match for what happens next. The chain of events set in motion on the tranquil shores of Lake Tahoe come to an astonishing end on a foggy San Francisco night. And alter the course of four lives forever.

First Kiss Wednesday!

It's  First Kiss Wednesday!

Kisses are the mainstay of romance writing.  No matter how sweet or spicy our stories are, they usually involve at least a kiss or two.  And the first kiss is especially lovely - that first, soft touch of lips - or perhaps the kiss is fierce and hungry.  Maybe the characters murmur words of love or words of teasing while discovering the texture and taste of each other.  Maybe the only sounds they can emit are gentle, timorous moans or deep, throaty groans.

Okay, now that we've set the premise, here's what you can do.  In the comment box, give us your best kiss from a published work or a work-in-progress in a maximum of 300 words. Be sure to include one link to your website/blog and one buy link.

Read and luxuriate in the glories of the kiss...

Oh, and lips only...  ;-)
