Lady Elinor stared at the two children in front of her. One, a girl, looked to be about six years old and dragged a cooking pot with a few possessions inside it. Her arms and legs were stick-thin, her hair was falling out in clumps, and her belly was swollen.
The child had been eating bark and leaves to try to stem her hunger, and her belly was full of air, assumed Garnet, who was standing beside Lady Elinor among the other sewing women of the castle.
The younger child, which could be either a girl or boy, and was maybe three years old, clutched the older one’s tunic in one hand, and sucked hard on its other thumb. It, too, was painfully thin, though less bloated by starvation.
“You wish to become my slave?” Lady Elinor’s voice was even and mild, but Garnet knew she was shocked. Peasant men from the smallest of uncaring Lord Jeffrey’s hamlets had begged to become slaves of the castle in return for food during this terrible winter, but few females, and no one as young as this little child.
“Yes, Lady Elinor. I can scare birds from the crops when they’re planted, and clean for you. Ysabel will stay with me. I’ve always looked after her since Ma died, and she won’t touch the seedlings. She’s a good girl, and no trouble at all. And I will grow big, and learn to fight for you and Lord Rhys, and then I’ll kill the men who murdered our Pa and took all our hamlet’s food,” the child finished fiercely, almost in a shout.

From Civil War time travel romance, Erin's Rebel.

Excerpt:

His dark gaze narrowed as he fastened the final button on his shirt. "Can it wait until later?"

"No." She shook her head. "I've been keeping this from you, and now I've got to tell you the truth."

He sighed, his eyes taking on a haunted look. What did he think she was about to tell him?

"Go ahead if you must." He paced the length of the bed.

She drew a steadying breath and exhaled slowly. "I don't know how I can expect you to believe this, but here goes..."

He watched her expectantly.

"I've come from a distant place."

"Yes, I know you came from Ireland."

"No. That’s not it...the place I've come from doesn't yet exist." She rose from the bed and pulled on her wrapper. After pacing back and forth, she turned face him. "I've come from the future."

He frowned. "The future? What future?"

"The twenty-first century." His eyes widened. She was crazy to have thought he'd ever believe her. "Until the accident when I was told I fell off a horse, I'd been living more than one-hundred and forty years in the future."

His dark eyes hardened. Why had she said anything?

Now that she'd gone this far, she had to tell him all of it. "I had a life there and a fiancé. We broke it off because I couldn't stop dreaming about you."

"This is utter nonsense." He raked his hand through his hair.

She held up her hand, desperately needing him to understand. "It didn't make sense to me at first, either."

"If what you say it true, how and why are you here now?"

"I'm not sure how, but I do know why." She reached her hand out to him. "I've come back in time for you, Will."

Hermes Online ~ a scorching award-winning debut novel about an online affair by Rose Anderson http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B004XDGWL6
........................................................................

*....until I feel your body tremble and you would do the same to me. Together we would discover where all the nerve endings lead.*

My words had me panting again. I could literally feel him against my flattened breasts, and the downy covering all along his body treated my every nerve. They were only words, weren’t they? If so then why could I see it, why could I feel this so acutely? On impulse I added,

*My fingers read you like Braille through the confines of this electronic device. I admit I find it sadly lacking.
V*

I clicked send and waited.

“You’ve got mail” burst forth from the speakers. I discovered I had been conditioned to have an autonomic response to seeing the envelope and hearing the computerized words. Like Pavlov’s dog, I began to salivate.

*Dearest V,
Indeed it is sadly lacking. How is it you’ve reached inside me this way? Are you the sorceress, the witch with unseen powers to tempt me so? I think you are, for I find myself yearning in a way I thought forever lost to me.*

Although TORN has only just been published by Accent Press it is actually over 3 years old, having been self-published in 2011.

At last she was able to strip off her clothes and turn on the bath taps. There’d not been enough time to get home to change her knickers, let alone to take a bath, before she collected her son. The best she’d been able to do was ensure that makeup wasn’t smeared all over her face. Just as well she’d checked in the vanity mirror. The smudges of mascara had been easy to rectify with spit on a tissue. As for the other – luckily there’d been an old scarf in the glove box.
Now, letting herself down into the hot, sudsy water she examined her body with distaste. She was an adult woman with a young child, yet here she was, like a soppy teenager, counting the love bites that stained her breasts and belly. An affair with a boy was stupid, inappropriate, and self-indulgent. She couldn’t let it go on. With a grimace she hooked out the diaphragm. It floated to the surface of the water and bobbed there like a jellyfish.

From my first contemporary romance 'The Apple Tree' (2011):
"It seems you treat all your friends the same way. Badly. In my book, friends don't cheat and lie. You should have told me instead of deliberately letting me believe you were someone…something else."
"How could I, knowing your views? I grew too attached to you."
"All the more reason for telling the truth, don't you think?"
"But I couldn't bear to risk losing what we had."
"We could never have anything built on a foundation of lies. If I asked your husband, would he tell me you were never really his wife? Would he betray you the way you betrayed him? Do you hate all men, Julie? Or is it that you simply don't know the difference between right and wrong, or the truth and lying?"
She was as wounded by his tone as much as his words but still pressed on, her voice little more than a shaky whisper. "I don't hate you, Nicholas. I love you."
"I'll leave your keys on the bench." His voice sounded icy.
She backed away a pace and stared down at her feet in misery. Was there nothing she could say to move this man with whom she had shared so much love? Had she really damaged their relationship so irrevocably? How could he have changed so much, her tender lover? Had she done that to him?
She wanted a glimpse of the old Nicholas to reassure herself that he had existed and she hadn't dreamed him up. This cold, hard stranger bore no resemblance to him.
When she raised her head, Nicholas was no longer there. She had told him she loved him and he'd simply walked away. How much more humiliation could she take?

Blurb:
Engineering student Victoria Saenz lands a dream job as a housekeeper while she attends graduate school. Major Reese Thompson, USMC, is no ordinary master of the house. His hard body and strict military manner are male perfection. Reese is stuck in a loveless marriage with a hypochondriac wife. He returns from Iraq to divorce papers left with his maid. Victoria agrees to stay, to help him pick up the pieces, but Reese’s attraction to Victoria grows every day as the house seems to get smaller. The brunette beauty is there at every turn, tempting him. They discover a deep, sometimes dark love for one another as danger looms. The terrorist cell Reese has worked tirelessly to take down has a secret weapon in their war against him. Will Reese and Victoria's love withstand the storms of war, despite all the forces threatening to tear them apart?
*************************************************
Excerpt:

“Victoria!” He snarled.
Reese grabbed her shoulders and threw her roughly onto her back. It was as if he had become possessed. She should have known better than to tease him. Being in Iraq for the last eighteen months, she hadn’t thought about how long it had been since he’d been with a woman. He’d become explosive and fierce as he ripped her lingerie off.
Grabbing her wrists and holding them above her head, he slammed into her full force. Even if she’d been surprised at his sudden change, her body had been fully prepared. She was wet, very wet. She should’ve been frightened. Instead, his forceful play made the fire rage. He drove himself in and out of her fast and hard. She tried to release her hands so she could return the rough play but he was so massive and powerful it was useless to fight against him. Her struggles seemed to encourage him, making him drive into her that much harder.
His raw, savage hunger and his total loss of control swept her away. She often took power with a man to hide and become emotionally detached if she chose. This marine wasn’t giving her that option. His explosiveness and overpowering physical strength forced her to relinquish to him. She had no choice but to surrender, and that capitulation sparked her on an emotional level. It was also bringing her to a bone-melting climax.

From my best seller, The Boss's Son

Danny comes out.

Things came to a head a few days later in the locker room after practice. Kyle Johnson showered and started back to his locker with a towel wrapped around his waist. As he walked past Ralph Davis, the goalie reached out and pulled off the towel.
Ralph pointed at Kyle’s privates and smirked, “Hey, look guys, he does have a dick. He is a boy after all. You can’t tell when he has his clothes on.”
Kyle grabbed for his towel. “Leave me alone, Davis.”
Ralph held the towel over his head out of Kyle’s reach, “The way he acts and dresses, he must be a faggot. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I don’t want to share a shower room with a faggot.”
A couple of the others nodded their heads. Danny’s eyes met those of Coach Simms in a mirror behind the row of lockers.
Kyle blinked as he held back tears. He ignored the comment, straightened his shoulders, walked to his locker and started to dress.
Danny walked up behind Ralph, grabbed the towel out of his hand and tossed it to Kyle, “Leave him alone, Davis.”
“What?” Ralph asked incredibly. “You sticking up for this fag? Maybe you don’t mind having him on the team, but I don’t want to be on a team with a faggot.”
Danny shook his head and calmly said, “I wish you wouldn’t use that word. It’s very degrading. I mean, you wouldn’t call Jack or Leon the ‘n’ word, would you?”
“What? Faggot? It’s what he is, and like I said, I don’t want to be on the same team with a faggot.”
Danny’s usual easy-going attitude snapped. He knew it was time to stand up and be counted. He drew back his fist, and before Ralph knew what happened, Danny punched him in the nose. Blood spurted everywhere.
“You broke my frigging nose,” Ralph screamed as he grabbed a towel and held it to his nose.
Out of the corner of his eye, Danny saw Gary, one of Ralph’s buddies, start toward him.
Jack stepped in front of Gary and blocked him. “Way to go, Danny,” he cheered.
Danny said, “I told you not to use that word. Also, I want to know what your problem is. You’ve played on the same team and shared a shower room with a faggot for the last three years, and it hasn’t bothered you.”
“What do you mean?” It was hard to understand Ralph through the towel.
Danny looked directly into his face and accented every word. “I mean I’m gay. That’s what I mean. Want to make something of it?”
“You’re not gay.” Ralph said unbelievingly.
Jack laughed. “You mean you didn’t know? Wow, you’re dumber than you look. Come on, Danny. Let’s get out of here. You coming, Kyle?”
Kyle grinned as he tied his sneakers and grabbed his t-shirt, “Right behind ya.”

Alaina lives a quiet life but she can not deny she likes what she sees when town bad boy Kane Sullivan walks into her library. Can she grab his attention? Kane notices Alaina and is tempted by the red haired beauty. but there is a killer loose in town. In order to protect her he must stay away from her.
excerpt: Kane looked up to tell his brother he was not in the mood for anyone’s company and he was out of here. He’d walk if he had to. He would rather be at home alone sitting quietly with his own thoughts than at this loud bar listening to these two girls talk nonstop about stupid things like nails.

Out of the corner of his eye he spotted long red hair hanging down the back of a woman with a plump ass who reminded him of Alaina. He saw her everywhere, especially in his dreams late at night, where he would wake up sweaty and hard, aching to feel her body next to his.

He blinked and rubbed his eyes with his hands. That couldn’t be her could it? Not his sweet and demure Alaina dressed like a sexy siren?

“Alaina?” he whispered.

She was wearing tight dark-blue jeans that hugged her backside and made his mouth water. Her hair was long and wavy, falling like flames down her back and reaching her butt. It was even better than he had envisioned. She was laughing at something a man with dark-brown hair said and followed him out to the dance floor holding his hand. When she turned and he could see the front of her, he saw she was wearing a tight, glittery tank top that showed off too much of her generous breasts and clung to her generous curves. He was shocked and totally turned on at the same time.

“What the hell?” He was going to march right to the dance floor and cover her with his jacket. How dare she dress like that so other men could drool over her sexy curves?

His brother looked around the crowded bar with sudden interest. “Your librarian is here in a bar? Do they even drink? Where is she?”

Kane’s mouth tightened with anger when the man slid his hand around her waist, and she leaned her head on his shoulder with a dreamy little smile. Those smiles were supposed to only be for him.

“The girl in the silver shirt dancing with the man who only has a few minutes left to live. And she’s not an alien, Cam, just because she actually has a brain,” Kane mumbled grouchily, not taking his eyes off of Alaina in case he lost sight of her in the large crowd. It was a typical crowded Saturday night in the Lumberjack since it was the only bar in town. That meant wall-to-wall people.

His brother looked on the dance floor and his mouth gaped open wide and his green eyes showed his complete surprise. “Holy hell, that’s your girl? I pictured a junior Mrs. Winters or a Mary Poppins. I was actually concerned you were losing your mind in this boring town. How could you say no to her, Kane?”

Kane glared at his brother and was about to get up and go break up the happy couple dancing when the two girls came back to the table. Missy scooted in to the booth and leaned on Cameron but Betty stood by the table.

The Mason's Mark: Love and Death in the Tower—A Tale of ancient and modern scandal
Excerpt (R): To the Brink

He stopped her words with a burning kiss. When they broke apart he gasped, “God, it’s been so long. I want you, Claire. I promise you my…problem will be resolved. I promise you…” his lips went to her hair so his words were muffled, “…my heart.”
Claire couldn’t breathe. Gideon held up her hair and kissed the back of her neck, then planted kisses around to her throat. He continued down to the tiny hollow above her sternum. She closed her eyes, willing her mind to go blank. It worked. She dropped into a pool of sensation filled with the soft touch of lips, the sharp nip of teeth on flesh, the dibbling of fingers over skin. He tossed her blouse on the floor and pulled the bra down so it cupped her breasts. Cool air touched her nipples. They stiffened, dark with hot blood.
He bent to kiss them, then took each nipple and rolled it, squeezing lightly. Her whole torso bent to him. He slipped his hands under her arms and knees and hoisted her up, then strode to the stairs.
“No, Gideon, no.”
He didn’t respond.
Oh good, I didn’t say that out loud.
At the top of the stair he kicked his door open, dropped her on the bed and landed heavily on top of her. She squirmed away. He grabbed her arms, pinning her, and rolled on top of her again. His eyes bored into her as he lowered his head, closer and closer to her mouth. Just before his lips reached hers, she heaved him off and scrambled to the other side of the bed. Misjudging the distance, she landed in a painful heap on the floor. She could hear Gideon panting, but he made no move to come after her.

Amazon Connection by Carol Henry (The Wild Rose Press)

Snippet: For the umpteenth time Holly berated herself for losing her temper and insisting she follow Jake into the jungle. She knew she’d said it often enough, but, really, what had she been thinking? If there was any consolation right now, it was that everyone else in the long boats was just as drenched. No sense complaining—no one would listen or sympathize with her anyway. The rain thundered, making talk impossible. Huge raindrops splattered in the Amazon and splashed back up into the boat.
Holly looked behind her and barely made out the silhouettes of the guides bent over scooping out buckets full of water. It was no use. Rain was coming down faster than they were able to scoop it out. How long they had been at it, she didn’t know. She only knew she wished she was someplace else, anywhere, but here.
“How’re you doing?” Jake asked, stepping over the center of the boat, looming over her with a big grin on his face. “Wild, isn’t it? When it rains, it pours, huh?”
She couldn’t answer. His smile mesmerized her. He reminded her of her ten-year-old nephew playing in the rain. The man was actually enjoying himself. His hair lay plastered against his forehead, and hugged his neck. Unlike her nephew, Jake’s shirt clung provocatively to his wet skin as water ran in tantalizing rivulets over his firm, bulging biceps. He did nothing to protect himself from the deluge. He could be Tarzan himself standing next to her. The man was in his element. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. Denying the feelings that had been coursing through her veins since they’d met was useless. His smile was her undoing.
Shrouded in mist, the rain continued to sluice over their bodies, while water continued to rise. And all she could think about was what it would be like to be kissed by Jake Daniels—a real bone-shattering kiss. She couldn’t breathe.

From Winning Violetta, a steamy faery tale - http://amzn.com/B00EBVCO58

“Will you give me your scarf as a talisman?”

Her chin lifted suddenly, and she gazed searchingly at him. “You’d like that?”

“Yes.” God, her face gleamed in the moonlight. His eyes had adjusted to the dark, but he didn’t need the light to envision the living, burning flame that was her hair. Her part wariness, part curiosity amused him. She didn’t quite know what to make of him, but he believed she was drawn to him.

Slowly, very slowly, he lowered his head, holding her gaze. At the last moment, he closed his eyes and brushed his lips gently back and forth across her luscious mouth. With great satisfaction, he heard her gasp for breath. Had she let her tutor do this?

He slit his eyes to peek at her. Hers were closed, lashes resting on her cheeks. She didn’t respond, not exactly. But then, thank you, Lord, her lips parted. She gave a little moan, and her body surrendered meltingly against his, grasping his doublet with both hands. As his kisses deepened, her fingers clenched in the cloth more tightly with each passing second.

He cinched his arm snugly around her. The fall of her thick hair brushed over the back of his other hand wrapped possessively around her nape. Little sounds escaping her throat inflamed his already aroused senses, and he nipped and sipped at her lips. Fighting an overwhelming need, and by some immense force of will, he curbed his desire to devour her mouth, inside and out. He recognized the delicacy and tentativeness of her kisses, undoubtedly the kisses of a virgin. A virgin he desperately wanted.

It was intoxicating, the scent of her, her honey sweet mouth, her lithe body wriggling against him as he threaded his fingers up through the long, heavy, silken mass of her hair to cup her head. The reality of it, the actual feel of its weight and texture, was even more arousing than he’d imagined at dinner.

Under Fire: The Admiral
Coast Guard Admiral Gemma Hendrickson has made a career out of flying in and out of dangerous situations, and is now flying Dr. Ben Walsh on medical missions in Ecuador. Their plane is shot down off the coast by a drug cartel. Gemma uses all her skills to get Ben home safely. However, it’s not the drug cartel she fears most, but the attraction she feels to the young, sexy, doctor.

Ecuador
Gemma Hendrickson sank to her knees in the powdery white sand watching Pacific waves crash over a brand-fricking-new million-dollar plane. All her years in the Coast Guard and she’d never had a plane shot from under her. Three days into flying medical missions in Ecuador and she’d been rat-a-tat-tatted out of the sky . . .
“Oh, hell.” It had happened so fast. She’d seen the trawler in the cove, seen the flashes coming from the 50 cal on the bow, and instinctively attempted an evasive maneuver. It was futile. The Beechcraft was crippled. The best she could do was use air currents coming off the surf to glide as far away from the trawler as possible.
“Don’t worry about the plane,” Ben Walsh, the doctor she’d been flying to remote villages, said. He used a hand to shield his eyes from the equatorial afternoon sun as he watched the plane sink. She wasn’t worried about the plane, she was worried about the men on the trawler coming to finish what they started.

The Love Programme

Six months after they’d split up, in a completely misguided attempt to woo her back, he’d got down on one knee and proposed to her for the third time at the travel agency where she worked. Armed with a huge bouquet of red roses and a bottle of champagne he’d asked her to marry him one last time. It had been in front of several customers too; Lucy had been pink with embarrassment. When, riddled with guilt, she’d gently turned him down yet again he’d gone off and met Amelie. Eight months later here the two of them were standing at the altar about to become man and wife.
Realising that the ceremony was already well under way and she’d missed the first bit through not paying attention Lucy tried to focus on what was being said, forcing the memories of Marcus from her mind. Yes, they’d enjoyed some fun times over the years and she had to admit that there had been occasions when they’d been toe-curlingly great together but that was all in the past now. His future lay with Amelie.
Clearing his voice the vicar looked towards the congregation and questioned, “Does anyone here object to the marriage of Amelie Marchant and Marcus McKenzie? If so speak now or forever hold...”
“I object.” The words were barely audible but Lucy heard them and fear shivered up her spine.
The vicar, looking as though his worse fears were being realised, glanced around anxiously, unsure what to do or say next.
“I object!”
This time the voice was louder. The vicar turned his gaze towards where the bridegroom stood, red faced and flustered.
Clearing his throat again, colour rising in his cheeks as all eyes in the be-flowered church of St Martyn-on-the-Myle fixed upon him and the bridegroom, he said, “I’m sorry, sir, did you say that you object?”

White Rose of Avalon, Celtic historical romance/fantasy
A new, sensual twist on a timeless tale…
Blurb: Morgaine will do anything to save Avalon, but is she willing to sacrifice Lancelot, the only man capable of filling her heart with love?

A man stepped into the moonlight, holding a bloodied body, parting the light curtain of mist like a doorway. "Lancelot?"

"Morgaine, I need your help. He needs the healing waters."

His voice shook with tears.

Morgaine motioned to the maidens. "Leave us." The maidens scattered at her command.

Lancelot staggered toward her with the body, laying him down near the sacred well.

Morgaine shuddered at the man's mortally wounded body, knowing it was too late for healing. She held Lancelot's bloody hand. "I am sorry. It is too late to heal him. He has been dead for some time."

Lancelot shook his head. "No! It cannot be too late! Heal him!" He knelt next to the body.

She knelt next to him and took him into her arms. "Lancelot, it cannot be done."

"I killed my best friend, Morgaine. I killed Gareth," he muttered, burying his head in her neck, weeping, his body trembling with grief.

Morgaine wished there was something she could do, but she was powerless to help her broken man by breathing life back into his friend. She looked over his shoulder at the moon's reflection in the sacred well. Even the Goddess had limits to her powers. It was the Fates who decided who died and who lived.

Just in time for Valentine's Day!

ASK ME AGAIN
By E. Ayers

Her soft sigh spoke volumes. He trailed kisses from her cheek down the length of her neck. With her intake of breath, Rob realized he was doing more than he'd promised, and if he didn't stop soon, he wasn't sure he could. He forced his lips off her tender skin and whispered, "Will you play your flute for me?"

Her face still flushed from their kiss, she nodded, and left the kitchen. She put the pieces of her solid silver flute together. Then she pushed a button on the remote and turned off the soft classical music that had played in the background during dinner.

"Anything in particular that you'd like to hear?"

He shook his head, sat on the sofa, and watched her roll the flute under her lips.

"Okay, you asked for it." She started to play "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" before going into something a little more challenging.

He'd never paid any attention to classical music, but listening to her was incredible. The sound emanating from the flute filled the air and gave him chills with its splendor.

"Oh, don't stop," he whispered when the music ceased.

"You really don't want to hear more. You've been exceedingly polite to listen this long."

"No, I mean it. That was awesome. Please keep playing."

She opened a cabinet, pulled out some sheet music, and played several more pieces.

"Why are you not teaching music?" he asked when she stopped.

She shrugged. "There aren't any openings for music teachers and my minor is in gifted children. I worked for several years teaching regular fourth grade. I applied and got the job working with gifted children when it became available. Now, I teach second and third grade TAG students."

She pulled her flute apart and carefully wiped it clean. He knew it was late and he should leave, but he didn't want to go.

Here's a snippet from Cassie's Hope (Riders Up, Book One)

Shaking her head, Cassie grabbed a hoof pick from her back pocket, lifted one of Hope’s front hooves, and began extracting dirt and pebbles.
“Nice lookin’ filly.”
Cassie groaned at the strange deep voice and the too-familiar line. Couldn’t men anywhere be a little more original?
Dropping the hoof, Cassie glanced across Hope’s back and gasped. The deeply tanned hunk behind the voice had shoulders that stretched taut a pale yellow polo shirt covered, in part, with a thin buckskin vest. The wide cowboy buckle appeared unnecessary to hold up well contoured Levi’s. A sweat-stained brown Stetson, tipped low, cast a light shadow across his facial features. His worn boots were those of a working man. This was no drugstore cowboy.
He stepped closer. She could make out a scowl. Dark eyes snapped a foreboding anger. Raven black hair framed chiseled features, searing them into Cassie’s brain. Her toes curled involuntarily. She rubbed Hope’s coat vigorously. Who the hell was he? And to top it off, he didn’t even seem to notice her. His eyes appraised only the horse.

The reality that she belonged to both of them slammed into her awareness, yet quickly became lost. Zance molded the swells of her hips and ass with his make-her-putty hands.
"Down in front, sweet kitten," he ordered.
As Sherilyn obeyed, his cock's head jabbed against the rim of her pussy, then pushed strongly. "Oooh, that feels too good."
Dipping her back, she offered more of her sex to his huge shaft. Zance's sharp growl tingled her spine, and Sherilyn fisted the bedding as her clit spasmed.
"Zance," she softly sang.
"Mate." He gripped her hips, thrusting just inside her vajita with a strength that sent jolts of bliss through her.
"Dang, you're hot and tight, sweetheart."
Zance stroked his cock's head over her g-spot several times, and Sherilyn felt his crown slicken with her juices.
Before fully penetrating her passage, he built her excitement by slowly forcing his shaft deeper and deeper. Sherilyn arched her head back, and squeezed her eyelids together.
"Oh, yes, cowboy...ride me, ride me."
"Can't refuse my mate," Zance croaked...

Hostage of the Heart
Sweet medieval romance
www.lindaacaster.com

England, September 1066: the northern militia has been raised to support the new English king, leaving the Welsh marches dangerously unprotected. Rhodri ap Hywel, prince of the Welsh, sweeps down the valley to reclaim by force stolen lands, taking the Saxon Lady Dena as a battle hostage.

But who is the more barbaric: a man who protects his people by the strength of his sword-arm, or Dena's kinsfolk who swear fealty to a canon of falsehoods and refuse to pay her ransom? Betrayed as worthless, can she place her trust, and her life, in the hands of a warrior-knight shielding dark secrets of his own? And when the tables are turned, under whose banner does she stand?

Hi! It's been a while since I've been at Exquisite Quills and I'm glad to be back. Here's a snippet from A Long Way From Eden , which was first published in 2008:

"Is that what you really want, for me to walk away and leave you alone?"

He watched her intently, like he did the night he took her to dinner. She couldn't look away from his gaze. The look in his eyes challenged her to tell the truth. She fought against it, forcing herself to look away.

"Yes," she whispered.

"I don't believe you. If you can look me in the eye right now and tell me you really want me to leave, I won't bother you again." He briefly touched her face with the tip of his finger. "You'll never have to talk to me, or play piano for me or dance with me ever again. Is that what you really want?"

She tried to say it was, tried to make the words come out, but they refused. "No, that's not what I really want," she whispered.

Zane stepped closer, placing one hand on her shoulder while the other stroked her hair. "What do you really want, Meg?" he whispered, his voice a caress.

"I'm afraid to want anything," she said truthfully, her gaze locked with his. Her body trembled under his touch. "At least that way I can't be hurt."

"Who hurt you, Meg?"

She shook her head, and to her embarrassment felt tears pooling in her eyes. Why did he have to make her feel so much?

"Please, don't push me on this."

Something changed in his face, and he dropped his hands. He averted his gaze for a moment and when he turned back to her, she saw the determination there.

"I don't scare easily, Meg. When you're ready to tell me your secrets, I'll be here."

He turned and went back into the restaurant, leaving her staring at the closed door, her hands shaking. A part of her wanted to trust him, to believe that he would understand what she'd done. She was tired of the lies and secrets. But the part of her that had spent the last seventeen years in hiding recoiled at the idea of trusting another man, even Zane.

HUNTING CAMION by Marjorie Jones (writing as Raleigh Kincaid)

.99 cents at Amazon.com for Kindle Readers.
Approximately 64 pages (novella)

http://www.amazon.com/Romance-Hunting-Science-Fiction-Manhunters-ebook/dp/B00D1I2WAE/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=&qid=

Decades of gene manipulation have left an entire society void of a future...A single step backward may be enough to save the world, but it might destroy that which is most important of all.

Camion Drake is a man of honor. A former member of the elite U.S. Navy SEALs, he has recently been released from prison and is looking forward to tending bar at his brother's tavern and living a nice, quiet life...

When four women he's never seen before slide into the bar with nothing but sin on their minds, Camion discovers that he isn't as reformed as the thought he was. What follows will change his plans, and his life, forever.

Excerpt:

As soon as they’d left, he’d clapped Con on the back and expressed his gratitude. “Way to go, man.”

“What?” Con answered, incredulous. “What are you thanking me for?”

“You hired them, right? A welcome home gift?”

Con shook his head. “No way.”

“C’mon, bro. How much did it set you back?”

“They weren’t hookers, man. I’m tellin’ ya. Did you pay them anything?”

“No.”

“Neither did I. Hey, you,” Con called to the man just climbing off the pool table. “You pay those chicks?”

The stranger shook his head, more inebriated from the treatment he’d just received than any of the booze he’d been downing most of the morning.

“Something doesn’t add up here.” Camion crossed to the window. The motor home was still in the parking lot. Nobody sat at the wheel. He could make out the tall redhead who’d shown his brother such a good time standing with her back to the huge, front windows.

“You know what’s weird? She wouldn’t let me fuck her. I mean, she did all sorts of . . . well, you know. But it had to be her way. And her way was doing all the deeds herself.”

“Sure, but who cares?” snorted one of the customers. He slid up to the bar and tapped the surface. Con set a chilled bottle of beer in front of him before the biker continued. “I didn’t even care about the blindfold.”

“Blindfold?” Camion was more intrigued by the minute.

“Sorry, was that just our girls? They blindfolded all of us.”

“Me, too,” added Con.

Camion looked out the window again. Red threw herself behind the wheel, obviously hotter than Hades about something. Behind her, Lynn ran to the back of the camper.

“I wasn’t blindfolded. And I fucked the shit out of her.”

Snippet from "Just for Tonight" by Maya Tyler published by Breathless Press in 2012 as part of With Love from Val and Tyne.

She stood outside the impressive hotel on a luxurious red carpet as the valet drove her car away. The train of her dress curled dramatically at her feet and she assessed her surroundings through the limited view behind the mask.

"Bon soir," a man greeted her with a thick French accent. He had brown hair and was dressed in a tailored black tuxedo.

"Are you..?"

"Oui," he answered simply before leading her into the hotel and straight to the grand ballroom where couples swirled around the dance floor to a live swing band. Wordlessly the French stranger took her into his arms. Her pulse throbbed and her breath caught as she was swept away in a tirade of emotions, none of which she could define.
