Callie Dalton from Apple of His Eye
Callie dropped her gaze, giving Marshall time to study her features. Her sun kissed skin needed little makeup. He liked that she didn't try to hide the sprinkle of freckles that covered the bridge of her nose and dotted her cheeks. She's what he always thought of when the words quintessential girl next door came to mind. Her face tilted and she caught him staring. A blush followed, and then she reached up to snag the strand of hair that escaped her pony tail and tugged it behind her ear.

He supposed it could be the gossip from the papers; however it didn’t explain the warning rise of hair along the nape of his neck. His glance moved above the hearth to the mirror.
His reflection shimmered in the rising heat. The dark curl of hair dipping over his forehead pointed toward his equally dark eyes. He’d heard it said that the eyes were the reflections of one’s soul. Well then so be it, his was dark for no soul lay in the depth of his bosom. It had been crushed, wrenched from his body years ago.

Sunday’s Child By Rosemary Morris
Hertfordshire, England
November 1813

Rupert, Major Tarrant, caught his breath at the sight of seventeen year old Georgianne. Black curls gleamed and rioted over the edges of her bandeau. Her heart-shaped face tilted down toward her embroidery frame. Her hands lay idle on her gown, which was lilac, one of the colours of half-mourning. A sympathetic sigh escaped him. She wore lilac out of respect for her father, who lost a hand, and leg during the Battle of Salamanca before he died of gangrene more than a year ago.

From Cowboys and Kilts, a gay fantasy novella. Hugh, the narrator here, is a first-time visitor to Scotland.

Crossing the street, he couldn’t help noticing a man, a very large man, exiting the pub. He was hard not to spot, being even taller than Hugh and massive as a damn grizzly. Hugh thought he was certainly a local, dressed as he was in casual boots and high socks, and a walking kilt that flapped in the cold wind.

It was not his size or even his good looks that seized his eyes as the man walked away, but the expanse of thigh and buttock revealed by the teasing wind. An expanse that was lean, muscled, showing a glimpse of dark testicles below the crack.

If he hadn’t been an athlete himself, and sure of his feet, he knew he’d have tripped and ended up on his own butt in the middle of the street.

Tessa meets Nick on a plane:

“Can I buy you another drink? You’ll be through that one pretty quick.”

I looked into the palest green eyes I’d ever seen. I hadn’t noticed the man who’d slipped into the seat across the aisle.

He smiled. “You look super stressed,” he said. “If it’s the flying, another drink will take the edge off.”

I sat a little straighter. He was tall, I could tell by the way his tanned legs spilled out of his khaki shorts and straddled the seat in front of him. The rolled-up sleeves of his blue, cotton shirt revealed muscular arms.

From Civil War romance, Confederate Rose.

Excerpt:
He sat and yanked off his boots and socks. When he stood and loosened his trousers, she averted her eyes. She busied herself in her pack, taking out a dry, muslin shirt, butternut britches, flannel underwear, and socks. She looked for a place where she could shield herself while she undressed. If she crept into the firs and draped a blanket and quilt across the branches, maybe while the man finished dressing, she could quickly change.

Katie spread the quilt and blanket across a pine bough as a barrier. After removing the sodden sack coat, she yanked off her brogans and socks, then slid down her trousers and underwear. She donned a spare pair of drawers, then pulled on the dry britches.

Her shirt and flannel undershirt were saturated, too. After she removed them, she bent down to retrieve a dry shirt. A baritone voice, sounding much too close, called, “Get a move on, boy. It looks like a storm’s coming in.”

Hart peeked over the edge of the blanket. “What’s the matter, son? You bashful?”

Katie gasped and clutched the shirt against her chest.

His eyes widened, then narrowed as he took in her form. “What the — ?”

She didn’t move as his gaze roamed over her body.

“You’re no boy.”

Jenny had already pressed and hung the sheer sari and scarves Kali wore to entice men into the spell of her dance. The jeweled headpiece that covered her hair had been locked away, the hammered gold girdle that circled her small waist set aside to be polished. The finger cymbals and yaal harp and tabla drums were back in their cupboard. The maid had removed the kohl from her eyelids, burnt ash from her lashes, the paint from her cheeks and lips, the pearl dust from her shoulders and the swell of her breasts. Jenny patiently dragged the boar-bristle brush through her long hair to remove the glittering brilliants that shone under the lights.

Kali’s whole life was nothing but flash and noise and trickery, she thought, designed to fool the world into thinking she was worthy of exalted attentions, not a convenient tool to be used by her father, her lovers, virtually every man who crossed her path.

She sometimes even fooled herself.

From A Simple Misunderstanding - A Domestic Discipline/Spanking Romance that is part of the Corbin's Bend series. Corbin's Bend is a fictional spanking community near Bolder Colorado.

Setup - Jerry Douglas,Corbin's Bend vet, owns a black lab named Jack. Elly Benson, another resident of Corbin's Bend, owns a toy white poodle named Muffin. They both walk their dogs in the dog park situated near Jerry's home and clinic. Lately, Jerry has been timing his visits to meet Elly because he suspects her husband Arthur is abusing her, and that is something Jerry cannot abide. Unfortunately, Elly steadfastly denies her husband is doing anything wrong, so Jerry has no real proof to offer as evidence, only his suspcions. He lent her his coat the day before because Elly wasn't dressed for the inclement Colorado weather, and he's been waiting for her to return to the park the next day.

Jerry surreptitiously kept watch for Elly Benson all afternoon, but after he’d seen his last patient and she still hadn’t arrived at the park, he decided to take Jack out and wait for her outside. Less than fifteen minutes passed before he spotted her weaving a path toward him. Bundled up all the way to her throat in a quilted coat, she wore warm, sturdy boots and padded winter gloves. Clearly, she’d dressed for any possibility of inclement weather. Cold would not be an issue today, but she walked as if her bones hurt. When he noticed she carried his coat and Muffin wasn’t with her, his heart sank. He realized at once that her husband had taken exception to finding another man’s jacket in her possession.

Gawking at a pretty ass being showcased by a Highland breeze. Yup, that answers the age old question as to what Scottish men wear beneath their kilts.

This is from my work in progress - My Best Friend's Ex-Husband

Memories flooded through her mind, and she adjusted the spaghetti strap of her shirt. Unable to pull her gaze from his lean, muscular frame encased in a black T-shirt and jeans, she silently wished she’d worn something sexier than an old pair of jeans and a tank top. She glanced down and remembered what she looked like in high school when they met.
As an overweight teen, she’d worked hard to get his attention, had even helped him pass a few classes. They had become friends, and she’d decided he was everything she ever wanted in a man.
At the end of the school year, he’d left for college. After graduating, he’d returned. They had reconnected at a party where she introduced him to her best friend, Janet. They started dating and married not long after her first year of community college. Sadly, less than a year later, it ended in a divorce because she cheated on him with one of her classmates.
Suddenly unsure how to handle the situation, she choked out his name. To her ultimate horror, he turned.

From LOVE BURNS:

Keeping up appearances. That meant tonight, as well. She chose a simple wrap dress she always enjoyed wearing, but the sensuous slide of black silk over her skin reminded her of the pink dress and Dave’s gentle hands. Shuddering from exhaustion and the memory, she exchanged the dress for a summery leaf-green sheath.
The simple gold hoop earrings she wore suited the dress. Mama would notice her bare ring finger, but she could say she’d left the rings at the jewelers for resizing while she vacationed at the river. Her dress’s loose fit proved she’d lost more than enough weight to support that lie.
When R.J. had first announced the Lake Mohave trip, Olivia’s blind optimism had bounded. Yes, the trip combined the usual business with fishing because of the venture he and Lloyd were negotiating, but Lloyd was so genial and the trip seemed a wonderfully different and fun adventure. She’d fought successfully to slip several extra days afterwards into their schedule in hopes R.J. and she would have private time together in Las Vegas to relax and perhaps talk things out.
So much for hope.
She added the pink sandals and, after a thorough brushing of her hair, took a final look in the antique cheval mirror. Not too dressy, not too casual. Aside from her exhaustion, perfect.
You look a mess. You haven’t done a thing with your hair.
No. She shuddered at the carping echo of R.J.’s voice. She’d wear her hair as she pleased. She turned from the mirror with her hair loose, not even tucked behind an ear.

From Werewolves with Chocolate
by Shauna Aura Knight

“She running late?” Kyle asked.

“Yup.”

“Hmmph.”

Jake snorted. Kyle tended to get more miffed when Ellie ran late. But then, of the two of them, Kyle was more likely to be sexually tense. “Hey, we could use an extra hour. This chocolate needs time to cool.”

“All right. Why don’t you dip the strawberries and I’ll start cutting up the fruit.” Kyle looked Jake over. “You’re going for the suspenders and jeans look again, huh?”

Jake stiffened. “She likes the suspenders.”

Now Kyle snorted. “She likes pulling them off of you.”

“I’m not going to argue there.” Jake stirred the chocolate. “You know she’s going to tell us we’re trying to fatten her up again.”
“It’s just a few truffles, and strawberries in chocolate.”

“And cheesecake, and fruit, and—”

“This was your damned romantic idea!” Kyle fumed, flinging a piece of peach at Jake.

"Let me tell you what I'm going to do to you, Jean-Loup."

My voice was soft—husky with sex. Slow as an escargot, I began to lower the zipper of my snug, silk dress. With a little bump and grind, I shimmied out of its black bonds. I hadn't bothered with a bra. Clad only in garter belt, stockings and stilettos, I removed the combs from my hair, tossed my head, and let the raven cloud settle about my shoulders. I stared into his eyes—their intensity scorched my body like a firebrand. It took all I had to restrain myself from jumping his bones. Instead, I released a stocking from its garters, then stepped out of my heels. Placing a foot atop his nightstand, I slowed peeled the black mesh down my leg.

Skimming the whispery strip over his body, I asked, "Like the feel of it, Jean-Loup? Imagine my lips following the same course."
