With feline grace, he mounted his charcoal gray gelding and extended his hand to her, palm up. "Are you coming, Miss Sinclair?"

She stared at him, stunned at the suggestion that she should share a horse with the man dubbed Satan by the entire town.

“What do you want for your daughter, Mrs Darling?”

A Long Trail Rolling
by
Lizzi Tremayne

Vladimir was beginning to doubt his wisdom in taking the massive bay colt. Knowing Krzysztof's taste in horses, Vladimir wasn't surprised to find the conformation and bearing of the young horse were second to none he'd seen in this country. Looking at the piles of furs in the barn, he guessed Krzysztof hadn't been to town for a while, hopefully long enough that no one they met would recognize the growing three-year-old horse.
Your mind wanders Vladimir, he roused himself. The fact remains that in this harsh part of the world, taking what you need to survive is acceptable.
By his actions, however, he'd turned himself into a horse thief as well as a murderer.
Please God, let me find Krzysztof's companion and his secret, before whatever passes for the law out here finds me.
