Sophia gasped and backed out of the office into the stable yard, blood rushing to her face. Stopping in the middle of the yard, she stared up at Des’ flat. Des and Helen were silhouetted against the curtains. They kissed, embraced, and disappeared from view. Des’ office was directly under their flat but Heaton’s was directly opposite and if she could see right into his office… Colour flooded her cheeks…those directional spotlights… What if he had seen her struggling with her aerobics exercises or getting ready for bed?

Shooting a man wasn’t my idea of how to end the day my father was buried, but Big Billy Johnson didn’t give me much choice. After the last of the funeral revelers had finally staggered on their way and I was looking forward to some sleep, the door suddenly flew open again, snapping off the flimsy latch in which I had so foolishly trusted.
“ ‘Bout time they went home, Gene.”
Big Billy Johnson was rightly named; a great hulking brute of a man, he was larger than any man in that mining camp—or any other camp I had ever lived in—and ever since we’d come to Three Mile Creek he had been following me with his eyes. Of course, since I was one of only three women in camp, that wasn’t strange, but there was something in the quality of his stare that always frightened me.

The spring rain had left puddles in the dirt road but she no longer tried to avoid them. Under other circumstances this would have been a pretty ride. The young pale green leaves not yet entirely covering the branches she brushed by glittered in the sun that had finally chased away the storm clouds. Even the fresh scent of the earth moistened by water was unable to mask the smell of the hot motor between her legs. She didn’t know how much longer the bike would last the way she was pushing the engine.

From SERPENT'S TOOTH, from Class Act Books:

About two o’clock that afternoon, Melissa realized someone was following her.
She noticed the man shortly after coming on board the Circe, both in the rush of passengers going up the gangplank and again at breakfast the next morning.
He’d been very visible at the mixer later that afternoon; when they started playing those silly games to help everyone get acquainted, he disappeared.

From ABSINTHE: A TAle of Magic, Love, and Revenge, pulished by Class Act Books:

“You bastard. How dare you even think of abandoning me in this uncivilized place? I rue the day I married you.”

The coffeepot barely missed the Marquis Delafée’s dark head as it crashed against the door. Splintered bits of china embedded themselves in the mellow oak as streams
of dark liquid trickled down the polished surface, soaking into the carpet’s thick nap.

Chapter One: Zolivar and Zindale

August 14, 2009

“Ready to unleash your inner being?” Zol asked his twin. Utterly naked, he pulled off his gold and onyx signet ring, twirled it once on his finger, then slid it inside his tuxedo pants pocket.

Zin stripped off his dress pants and tossed them inside their black sports car, affectionately known as the Twilight Mirage. He shut the door with a neat twist of his wrist. “I’m releasing my inner beast,” he returned with dry amusement.
