First Kiss Wednesday

Kisses are the mainstay of romance writing.  No matter how sweet or spicy our stories are, they usually involve at least a kiss or two.  And the first kiss is especially lovely - that first, soft touch of lips - or perhaps the kiss is fierce and hungry.  Maybe the characters murmur words of love or words of teasing while discovering the texture and taste of each other.  Maybe the only sounds they can emit are gentle, timorous moans or deep, throaty groans.

Okay, now that we've set the premise, here's what you can do for First Kiss Wednesdays.  In the comment box, give us a maximum of 300 words of the first kiss of a published work or a work-in-progress and one link to your website or blog or Amazon Author Page.

Read and luxuriate in the glories of the first kiss...

Oh, and lips only...  ;-)

This is from my novel Lizzie Braithwaites Last Chance, the first in a series set in Framlington St. Mary, a country market town in the far north of England. It's available from all e book retailers.

…she would never have expected to find Dan Frobisher in an environment like this one, creating beauty from almost nothing. Clearly he loved his craft and he was good at it. The bed was a true work of art. Standing by the window, the sun behind him, Dan pushed his hands through his hair and stretched his elbows back behind his head. His shirt rode up and Lizzie’s eyes were inexorably drawn to his flat brown stomach with its sprinkling of dark blonde hair. Her mouth went dry. A vision of Dan in this bed rose unbidden in her mind and she started to back out of the room. Dan moved lazily towards her like a panther towards its prey. He spoke quietly.
“Will you stay here Lizzie? Until Nick has a cottage free?”
She swallowed. “You only have one bedroom if Toby comes here.”
He slid one hand to the back of her waist. “Then stay here with me.”
Moving his other hand to the back of her head he drew her to him. Lizzie kept her arms at her sides but allowed herself to be drawn. His lips brushed hers once, twice, then his mouth came down on hers, moving softly but firmly until instinctively her mouth opened and she lifted her arms around his neck. For a moment he deepened his kiss, touching his tongue gently against hers, then he moved his mouth and traced a line of soft, small kisses across her cheek to her ear then down, kiss by kiss, to her neck. Lizzie clung to him, her head tilted back to accept his kisses.
“Tell me Lizzie,” he whispered between touches, “tell me you don’t want to be with me.”

From my erotic M/F, Home to Stay...

“I’m not getting involved with you.”

“Didn’t invite you to.”

Mm, talk about deceptive advertising. Like he’d turn it down if it was offered. “I just want to be left alone.” There was too much to think about. She’d come here to Parkersburg, to her great-aunt’s house because she wanted a quiet place to decompress from the loss of her marriage. The loss of love. She didn’t want a series of creepy pranks and an amorous cop.

“Okay.” He knelt on one knee in front of her and traced her cheek with his fingers.

She stayed his hand by wrapping hers around his wrist. “Please don’t,” she pleaded. His fingers were cool on her hot skin. She couldn’t see his expression, but she could just imagine what he wanted. “I thought you didn’t want to get involved with me,” she whispered.

“You said that.” His hand drifted down to wrap around her neck; he leaned closer, his warm breath bathing her lips.

“You said okay.” Her eyelids started to drift closed. She could feel the sensual pull of his mouth as he brushed the corner of her lips with his thumb. Why can’t I breathe right?

“I didn’t say never.” His mouth hovered inches from hers.

She wasn’t ready for this.

He kissed her anyway. A light pressure. A little sensuous sound in his throat.

“Please…no…” she whimpered again.

He tugged at her lower lip, suctioning it wetly into his mouth, before letting her go.

God…he knows how to kiss. She pushed him back a little, the muscles of his chest hard. At first he didn’t move.

Grrr…

A cold nose followed by a big, wet tongue across her hand startled her. Dog?

“What’re you doing, you mutt?”

Part of her wanted to laugh at the man’s obvious irritation at Dog’s interruption.

Grrr…

“Oh, for God’s sake, I’m not going to hurt her.” He playfully gave Dog a little shove.

Put at ease and warmed by the dog’s protective instincts, she said, “Maybe Dog Sweetie will keep me company the rest of the night. Would that be all right?” She needed a nice, uncomplicated, nonverbal, four-footed friend.

“Either one of us, honey. But if you won’t take me, Dog’ll be the lucky one,” he said, frustrated amusement clear in his voice.

This is from my September release, Bella's Betrothal, set in Scotland 1826. Available from MuseItUp and many on-line retailers. Amazon is here: http://goo.gl/5RBzIm

“Get out, Mr. Lindsay, before I scream so loudly everyone in this...”
Before Bella could finish, Lindsay reached for her and drew her up out of the
chair, hard against the long muscles of his legs. His arms encircled her and the
flickering light was extinguished as his head came down. With a restraining hand
in her voluminous curls, he held her while his mouth covered hers.
The kiss was pitiless, and Bella, who had never been so insulted despite what
the scandal sheets said, was stunned. She did not struggle or respond, but squirmed
in exquisite discomfort when Lindsay’s other hand found the curve of her buttock
and lifted her into the apex of his thighs. She felt hard pressure against her
abdomen and realised exactly how vulnerable she was.
Drenching fear gave way to fury. When Lindsay released her, she would grab
the fire-irons again and she would kill him.
There was a knock on the door.

Here is my kiss from 'FLAVIA'S SECRET' my historical romance set in Roman Britain.

Back in her short, sheer tunic, Flavia joined Marcus and Hadrian in
the stable. The gardener was taking a break from hoeing and, bundled into his new cloak and old hat, was walking Marcus' black stallion down to the river. Marcus, meanwhile, had lit lanterns to give them the best light in this gloomy morning and had cleared a space in the hay for them to begin their latest weapons training.

`We use these for practice in the army,' he said, handing her a
wooden sword. Running round the cobbles outside the stable, happily oblivious to the falling sleet and a biting wind, Hadrian was already fending off imaginary Caledonians with his.

`Hold it properly!' Marcus called after him, shaking his dark head.
He beckoned to Flavia. `Here, little Celt, you are not yet quite
close enough. That is it!' He surveyed her. `It is good that you have
tied back your plaits, but you need to change that belt. It will get
snagged as you practice. I have brought you a sash instead.'

He wrapped a long red sash deftly around her middle, crossing it over her breasts, and knotting it in the back. He flicked one of her tied plaits. `All done.'

Flavia turned and found herself in his arms, staring helplessly as a
tanned, lean face bent inexorably to hers and a full, firm mouth
claimed her lips. Shocked at her own dazed compliance, she thought for one instant of fighting him—to at least make it less easy—but the blazing tenderness of his kiss undid her. She dropped the wooden sword and took his head between her hands, kissing him deeply in return.

`So here is the way to disarm you,' he chuckled, his lips ranging
with a devastating, brutal softness across her face and throat.

`And you,' Flavia responded, standing on tip-toe to recapture his
mouth.

A WIP. A family Saga starting in 1958 with the parents and follows four sons into a family dynasty.
In all her almost fifteen years, Sara Delaney had never been close to a boy her family didn’t know, much less sitting on one’s lap in the back of a 48 Packard.
Nicky’s hand slid to her hip. His legs shifted against hers. What was he doing? She went rigid afraid to move and cause any more friction between their bodies. She stole a sideways look.
“Take it easy. I’m trying to get comfortable.” he said. His voice a deep grumble. Not like the boys in her class whose voices squeaked like old men’s shoes.
“You were the one who pulled me onto your lap.” she said, immediately regretting her rudeness. He didn’t seem to mind. He gave her the same lopsided grin that raised goose bumps on her flushed skin Nicky moved under her again.
“At least you don’t have a boney ass.”
That was it. She turned to face him. “Are you saying I’m faaa?” Their noses collided. Time stopped advancing locking her in the moment. She registered his warm breath on her lips, saw the emerald flecks in his eyes brighten, and hear her heart thud. Nicky’s hand slid to her waist applying pressure until her bare shoulder rested against his chest. His head moved to the side the tiniest little bit and he touched his lips to hers. She slumped, pressing her lips against his.
Her first boy girl kiss. In the movies, couple closed their eyes when they kissed, but his were open. She kept hers open, but she must be doing something wrong. There was no electricity or tingling like the other girls talked about. No lightning bolts or bells ringing like in the trashy novels Jenny took from her grammy’s house. Only a warm, breath stealing, I never want this to stop feeling, that she’d never heard anyone talk about.

This is Sage and Alex's first kiss from my recent M/M Romance release 'Saving Alexander'.

Sage looked at Alex, feeling both a surge of overwhelming tenderness and horror at his story. Now Alex’s past behaviour made perfect sense. Sage saw through the bravado, through the curt words, noticed Alex’s trembling hands, the swallowing in his throat, the rapid breathing. But most of all, he saw the sheer anguish in his eyes as Alex expected him to turn tail and run.
He’d expected to shock Sage, to disgust him and turn him away, but all Sage could think of was the wonder that this man could have come through this horrific ordeal and still be able to face his demons in a relatively normal fashion to the outside world.
His happily ever after romance novels made perfect sense now.
Sage moved toward Alex swiftly and Alex flinched as if he expected him to hit him or worse. Instead, Sage pulled him close, kissing him with a hunger that he hadn’t ever felt before for a man. Alex stiffened at first and then finally relaxed into him, his arms wrapping tightly around Sage’s neck, his mouth devouring Sage’s in a kiss that seemed to swallow him whole. Alex’s hands wound themselves tightly into Sage’s hair as he ground his mouth against his, pressing his body against Sage’s, leaving no doubt how the man felt.
Alex seemed to want to meld them together as one. Eventually they needed to come up for air and when they did, they were gasping at the intensity of their passion for each other.
“Jesus, Sage, I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t think you’d want me after that story,” Alex breathed against Sage’s mouth, driving him even crazier with desire.
Sage thought he might explode there and then. “Does this feel like a man who doesn’t want to be with you?” His voice was low as he ran his hands over Alex’s hips, pressing himself against him.

This time I offer a desperate kiss from Dreamscape. Can a ghost find love among the living?

The ghost of Dr. Jason Bowen discovers he can ride Lanie's synapses in his pure energy form and return to the days leading up to his death. In this scene, Lanie again meets Jason in her Victorian dream world. This time, her dream is influenced by the sad reality of her waking world -- Jason has been dead for more than 100 years.
...............................................................
Her eyes brimmed with tears. “I feel hopeless, Jason, and I’m not sure why.”

He understood. Lanie’s dream was influenced by her waking reality. After brushing away the tear that slowly fell from her lovely blue eyes, he held her face in his hands. “Don’t feel hopeless.” His eyes searched hers. He needed her to know. “I will love you through time. I will love you in your dreams and in the waking world. No matter what happens, no matter when.” His lips found hers, and he kissed her sweetly. Her arms circled his neck as she returned his kiss with desperate abandon.

Their kisses deepened and loving caresses took a turn. Thoughts and words evaporated as their hands and lips now ran wild. He needed her. He needed to lose himself in this moment, in this dream. Pressing her hard against the wall, his hands grasped her buttocks and pulled her to him. His hardness pressed through the flounces of her skirts and pinned her between his body and the wainscot. Desiring to feel her skin upon his, he opened her blouse...

Cutie and the Cowboy Trucker - AA Mainstream - Sensual
Price: $2.66
Link: http://www.amazon.com/Cowboy-Trucker-BookStrand-Publishing-Romance-ebook/dp/B009OMHG6G/

Scene: After Trucker Mike Masterson rescues Veronica Torres and her four-year-old, they stand in his kitchen window watching his other driver come to the garage.

“That doesn’t look good.”

Veronica joined him at the window. “All the more reason for me to get out of your hair.”

“I meant it when I said you’re not in the way here.” He faced her now. “Don’t make a drastic decision you’ll regret.”

“Too late,” she whispered.

“Regrets about the trade, huh?”

“If only you knew.”

Mike gulped the last dregs of his coffee. “I think I have a problem I need to solve.”

“I’ll take that.” Her reach for his mug brushed his hand.

“Thanks,” Mike said, his concentration glued on other matters now. He paid scant attention, absently let go of his cup, and pecked her a spontaneous good-bye on the lips. The feathery touch shocked him. “Veronica!” He was embarrassed. “I–I—”

Her eyes were as wide as saucers.

“Please forgive me. I didn’t mean for that to happen. I wasn’t thinking.”

“Mike, it’s okay. No harm done.” She put distance between them.

“Here I am, trying to convince you I’m trustworthy, and I do a boneheaded thing like that.”

“You aren’t going to jump my bones when I turn my back, are you, Mike?”

Her question alarmed him. “Hell no!”

“Okay.” Veronica snickered. “It’s forgotten.”

With that, Mike rushed out of the kitchen, mumbling to himself as he went. But he was long out of earshot for her to understand what he said. He beat up on himself. Twenty-four hours in Veronica’s company and she had rattled the bars jailing his heart.

Mike loped on toward the garage. He was hesitant to look back, yet he was unable to fight her allure. He took the chance.

Veronica waved. He ducked behind his truck. A hasty peek let him see she’d gotten the hint and vacated the window.

Thanks for this opportunity. This is from my paranormal romance with The Wild Rose Press, PASSION'S SACRED DANCE.

Herein, my heroine Stacy has had a bad night but in return, gets to finally kiss her hot Druidic warrior, Aaron. ;)
***

“What about dreaming of ancient battles?” Stacy's
voice broke. “Does everyone do that?
Aaron's breathing hitched. “Ancient what?”
“Battles. My God, it was awful! It was—” She
sobbed, “Horrible.”
Cold shot through her. She needed warmth—
something the artificial heater wouldn’t give. She took
his hand in hers.
Aaron jumped but soon relaxed, his fingers
entwining with hers.
After a moment, the despair dissipated, replaced
with something else—intrigue, the desire to touch him,
the craving to sample his mouth.
“I have a better idea than meeting this Mr.
McDunn. How about at the next light, you pull over or
turn around or something?”
“Stacy.”
“Okay, if you don’t want to then—”
“I didn’t say that.”
He found a spot at the side of the road and leaned
in to kiss her. Savoring the soft pliancy of his lips and
the sweet mint taste she detected, she slipped her
tongue between his lips. Her fingers moved up to his
broad shoulders, and as his arms tightened around her,
pulling her closer, she welcomed the feeling of his heart
thudding in his chest, reverberating through hers. His
left hand moved down her back to her waist as his right
arm held her tightly around the shoulders.
He smelled wonderful, like fresh sweet seas and
crisp wind.
Her fingers tested the hem of his scratchy wool
sweater and beneath, caressing the hard, warm surface
of his lower back.
His laugh sounded low in his throat, curling her
toes.
“Ticklish?” She dove back into the kiss, deciding
she liked it. Loved it, actually.
Too soon, Aaron broke the kiss and pushed her
gently away. “Stacy.”
She had no doubt he was affected. He was
breathing as hard as she was.
“What?” She leaned forward for another kiss.
Sucking a deep breath in through her nose engulfed her
in his intoxicating, scent. She crushed closer, plastering
herself to him from mouth to chest. The way his pulse
jumped under her fingers as she caressed his strong
neck she could tell he found her attentions appealing.
“Stacy, we’re going to be late,” he murmured
against her lips.
“So what?”
“I’m inclined to agree with you, but do you want
the diary or not?”
She sucked her bottom lip between her teeth.
“You’re right.”
He ran a finger across her chin, smiled, and turned
forward in his seat, starting the car again. “And
damning myself for it.”

Thanks for opportunity to share Rafe and Jasmine's first kiss, Unexpected Find (book 1 of the Royal Pride coming from Ellora's Cave 11/20)

“Am I hot enough for you?” His thumb traced the lips she’d licked. “Because you’ve caught my attention.” He bent closer and warm, cinnamon-scented breath bathed her face. “I’m interested, little female. Very, very interested.”

Jazz blinked but couldn’t make her mouth work. Up close the man wasn’t just good-looking. He was gorgeous. She watched transfixed as his amber eyes encompassed her vision. Cinnamon and the rich scent of sandalwood filled her lungs. The world titled but the hand holding her chin kept her righted, anchored to him.

He brushed his lips over hers, back and forth. The light touch tore a whimper from her throat. The tip of his tongue came next. He swiped it over the seam of her lips and she parted them. He took the invitation with a thrust of his tongue that was as controlled as the way he’d licked her lips. Sure of his welcome, he twined his tongue with hers, guiding her, urging her to open farther. She bent her head and matched his rolling movements, drawing him deeper.

She swayed but this time the hand on her chin didn’t ground her. Her weakened legs threatened to give out. She reached for his chest and fisted his shirt. A low groan spilled from him to her. He tilted his head, changing the angle of the kiss, and his sweeping exploration quickened. Her pulse kicked up, matching the increased passion.

Hands on her hips yanked her away. Her back collided with a wall of muscle. She gasped. Josh’s scent, a mix of cocoa butter soap and his favorite shampoo, surrounded her, but his familiar fragrance didn’t comfort her, not like it usually did. Her gaze locked on the man she’d just kissed, she watched him straighten. He closed his eyes as if savoring her flavor and another appreciative moan spilled from his throat.

Happy Reading!

Shadow Lord was released today (as everyone probably knows from the way I've been shouting it!) Here's an excerpt from the first meeting between the hero and his first love:

She selected a pitted cherry from a bowl of fruit next to the fowl, but as she started to eat it, Marek caught her wrist, bringing it to his mouth.
“I’ve a particular weakness for cherries.” He bit the little fruit off the stem and released her hand, chewing enjoyably and wondering why she blushed so.
She was smiling a little easier as she picked up another cherry, rubbing it across his lips and smearing them with juice. He ate that one, too, and for several minutes, was content to sit there and eat the fruit from her hand. Her fingers became stained and he licked the juice off them, his tongue lingering against her fingertips. He actually laughed as the flavor of her flesh filled his mouth. When he kissed her , he could taste her own sweetness under that of the cherry juice.

This is from my first novel, Dangerous Deceit, which is a sweet Regency romance.

Quicker than she believed possible, Marcus Sheldon was at her side and caught her in his arms.

Without uttering a word, he picked her up and Lydia almost fainted then at the feelings that coursed through her body. She was most aware of the strength of his arms through the thin fabric of her nightgown and of his eyes never leaving hers. She hardly dared to breathe, while he continued to hold her. She could see the conflicting emotion in his darkened eyes. Then, without conscious thought, she looked at his firm but sensuous lips. She closed her eyes lest he could see how much she longed to feel their touch on her mouth.

“Lydia…” His voice was less sure and she opened her eyes. And his lips gently found hers.

Never had she imagined such depth of feeling take hold of her whole body as she willingly yielded her mouth to his, wanting only to stay here forever.

This is from Covert Exposure - the first novella in the Nick Spinelli mystery series.

Her incredible scrumptious lips met his. Though he wanted more, he worked to keep the kiss light. He worried that if he rushed her she’d back off.

It took every bit of strength he could find to end the kiss. He took a step back. Pulling his gaze from her proved even more difficult. It was as though she wouldn’t release him. She ran her tongue across her lips. Did she do that on purpose? He decided if she did it a second time he would deem it intentional, and would kiss her again. But this time he would kiss her like he wanted to in the first place, deep and long. He would explore her lovely mouth, every ounce of it. He stared at her beautiful mouth, waiting. She stared back.

He knew he needed to end this. If he stayed another second he wouldn’t be able to control himself. The depth of his desire for her scared him. “Good night, Shannon. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He turned and took a step before she spoke. “Wait,” the desperation in her voice was unmistakable.
He spun around. She stepped toward him, reached up, wrapped her arms around his neck, and pulled him toward her. She pressed her soft moist lips to his. Her lips parted, inviting him in. His tongue caressed hers, slow, and controlled at first, but not for long. She met his quickening pace. She wove her fingers through his hair. He clasped his hands around her waist and pulled her tight to his body. Shock, pleasure, and heat spread through him like wildfire. He kissed her deeper, harder, wetter, and longer. He explored every ounce of her mouth absorbing her sweet flavor. His heart raced. He slid his lips from her mouth to her jaw, to her neck.
