A RANCHER'S WOMAN
By E. Ayers

The memory of carrying his wife and daughter to the funeral platform ripped through him, leaving an ache within his heart like a gaping hole. There was life and death. Too many of his people had found death too soon. Being a great hunter was no longer enough. There was nothing to hunt. His world had changed. He and his people needed to change to live in the white man's world.

Thanks for the opportunity, Exquisite Quills! I thought I'd share a bit from my late husband's pararnormal romance. So here we go!

Excerpt from COLUMBA AND THE CAT
By Michael B. Caffrey (edited by Barb Caffrey)

In the night, Princess-Royal Columba had the most wondrous dreams—dreams of a strange prince, not overly handsome as many of her dream princes had been, but not totally shabby either, with hair that almost the color of her new most favorite pet’s fur, but features she could not clearly discern. She could not hear the prince's words, or if she could, she never remembered them afterward. But she knew he was asking permission to court her—permission she clearly gave.

After that, the prince courted her assiduously, slowly. Somehow over the course of that one night, they lived months together, dancing, talking, sharing their innermost dreams, and they grew closer and closer all the while. Finally, he asked her if she would be his, and of course she accepted—he was the most interesting man she'd ever met, so why not?

From Playing With Fire by Nan O'Berry
Taking a deep breath, Mitzi reached out and touched Sully's arm. His muscles trembled.
Hurt, she pulled her hand away. "Sully."
"I tried to call you," he whispered.
She shook her head. "I never got it."
He turned his head and glanced over his shoulder. His face twisted. "I need to think, Mitzi. I need time to think," he whispered.
She bit her bottom lip and stepped back. "All right, Sully. I'll let you think. Just don't wait too long."
The last glimpse she took of him, Sully's head hung down. His shoulders slumped. Tears blinded her vision as she walked toward the squad car.
Grayson looked first toward her, then past her shoulder to where Sully was standing.
"Please, Grayson. I want to go home and shower."
"Sure," he murmured and stepped around to the driver's side of the cruiser and opened the door to reach behind and unlock the passenger door. "I'm sorry, Mitzi. Really sorry."

HEART TO HART: When Michael met Simon in his private flat:
~
The door opened quickly, but only partway. Michael seized the image of Simon Hart and devoured it by inches, starting with the lustrous silk dressing gown. It was obvious Hart had thrown it over his singlet and open pants. He saw the suspenders on his twill trousers hanging free, almost to the knees. He imagined rather than saw the gaping fly, lined with buttons, like a halfway open door.

Jesus Criminy, mother of the Lord. This man was asking to be taken.

Poor Simon...he never had a chance. The buy link is here, my amason author page: http://amzn.to/1w8PVgI

Excerpt from A SPELL IN PROVENCE by Marie Laval
Only £0.99 in the summer sale!

Shivering in the cold breeze despite her shawl, Amy joined the guests lining up to be greeted by Fabien, who in true lord of the manor style, stood tall and imposing at the top of the steps, with torches burning on either side of him.
He might wear a black dining suit and a crisp white shirt instead of a suit of armour, but there was something untamed, fundamentally uncivilized and proprietary about the way he surveyed the crowd – as if he truly owned everything and everyone, like Frédéric had said, and Amy was seized by an irresistible, irrational and overwhelming urge to flee.

Excerpt from WINTER WIND, Book 2 in the Native American Wild Wind Series, by Nancy Morse

Glancing up, Katie found his heated gaze upon her. She could not look upon him without her heart racing. Just past thirty and three winters, his arms were strong from a lifetime of stringing a bow and throwing a lance. His shining black hair, usually plaited into two braids, hung long and loose over well-muscled shoulders. His eyes, as dark as night, had a restless quality about them. He was master of the sidelong glance, although he did not miss a thing that was going on. In many ways he was like many other men, and yet, he was a man like no other.

Skater's Waltz
by Peggy Jaeger

Knowing what he was about to do, and to whom, should have sent him jumping off the couch, running in the other direction. Instead, when his head came down to hers all Cole could think about was how much he wanted to taste her again, how he wanted to lose himself in her, and how both those feelings somehow seemed right, even though he knew they shouldn’t.
Her body tensed as he inched closer. When his lips finally captured hers, she turned fluid under his hands.
Her smooth, small body slackened beneath him as his lips gently moved across hers, tasting them, savoring them. Releasing his grip on her arms, he leaned on his elbows and ran his fingers into her hair, cupping her face while holding fistfuls of the glorious mane.

Hungry Novice
by Kate Hill
Candlelight flickered, mingling with the moonlight that shone through the rectangular windows of the small church in London. It was ten minutes past midnight and May, wearing an elegant burgundy gown trimmed with black, stood beside her soon to be husband, Blair.

She could scarcely believe the turn her life had taken since meeting Blair and she'd never imagined that she would marry a man like him, or that such a man even existed.

Even now she was sure he could hear her heart pounding. She wasn't nervous about marrying him, but incredibly excited and a bit apprehensive. Was this really happening?

The vicar–a lean, bearded man with piercing brown eyes–looked far younger than his age–as did Blair.

Here's 7 lines from THE GIRL MOST LIKELY. Cara is in love with Finn, but she feels insecure because he's eight years younger:

“I think you’re beautiful. You know that, don’t you?”

No, she really didn’t know that, but she nodded anyway. What happened when he woke up one morning and realized that she had a few more lines on her face? Would he still think she was beautiful or would he tire of her, just as Peter had?

“Are you sorry about last night?”

However mixed up she felt this morning, she couldn’t let Finn feel that he’d somehow failed her.

She could feel him building a wall between them. The earlier softness had given way to something hard. Whatever the threat was, he was taking it seriously.
"I'm not some gentle flower that you need to protect. I can take care of myself," she huffed.
He dragged his hand through his hair nervously. "You don't understand. He can't be stopped," he whispered, almost to himself.

Her Stepbrother's Baby

New York.

A frown shadowed Christian’s handsome, chiseled face and his ice-blue eyes narrowed as he remembered the last time he was there, nearly six months ago. He’d left it without a backwards glance the morning he woke up naked, next to his stepsister Melanie, after a night of incredible, passionate lovemaking. The morning she told him they’d made a huge mistake, and there could be nothing between them.
