First Kiss Wednesday

Kisses are the mainstay of romance writing.  No matter how sweet or spicy our stories are, they usually involve at least a kiss or two.  And the first kiss is especially lovely - that first, soft touch of lips - or perhaps the kiss is fierce and hungry.  Maybe the characters murmur words of love or words of teasing while discovering the texture and taste of each other.  Maybe the only sounds they can emit are gentle, timorous moans or deep, throaty groans.

Okay, now that we've set the premise, here's what you can do for First Kiss Wednesdays.  In the comment box, give us a maximum of 300 words of the first kiss of a published work or a work-in-progress and one link to your website or blog or Amazon Author Page.

Read and luxuriate in the glories of the first kiss...

Oh, and lips only...  ;-)

This is from my erotic M/F, Undercover Lover. Sam has saved Liz's life from a mugger and has taken her home...

They met at the front door and reached for the knob at the same time. Even after the evening’s more recent events, he had a hard time not thinking about her earlier activities. He thought of her lying in her bed, naked and luscious, her long legs stretched open. Needing to do this as much as he needed air, he slid his arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his body. He wondered if she felt his hard-on through her heavy sweater. His other hand tunneled through her hair to finger the bump high on the back of her head.

She clutched at his lapels and winced, her eyes darkening in pain.

“I’m sorry.” His whisper elicited a moan, a soft sound deep in her throat, not desire but pain, writhed through his belly. He’d already wanted her—even before they’d met in that alley. He traced her jaw, the crest of her cheek, the bridge of her nose. He wanted to make it all better for her—no pain, no fear. She felt soft and firm at the same time. With his fingertip, he shaped the little dip in the middle of her upper lip. She smelled of delicately scented soap or lotion, of something delicious.

Her eyes flickered shut on a soft, “Oh.”

“I’m sorry,” he whispered again. “I want to kiss you. I mean I’m not sorry I want to, I just need to kiss you.” She took a heavy breath that pushed her breasts against his chest. Her front teeth gleamed white as they dug into her lower lip. God, he wanted her mouth. With a throaty growl, he covered her lips with his, shaking with the effort to keep his tongue from spearing into her mouth. One attack tonight was enough. He brushed and nibbled her lips lightly, biting her lower lip with exquisite restraint.

She clutched his shirt. Her lips hungrily massaged his. He lost his battle.

The second his tongue entered her mouth, she stiffened, shaking her head, pushing at him. “No.” She turned, trying to get away.
He released her with a low groan, his breath rough.

“You’d better go.” She sounded as out of breath as he, breathless, but there was a firm edge to her voice.

After tasting her and the heavenly feel of her in his arms, he had no intention of letting this end. They hadn’t really begun, but they weren’t through by a long shot. No way. Making his reluctance clear, he murmured, “Okay. For now.” He lifted her chin with a finger and kissed the corner of her mouth. “Good night, Liz.”
He liked her, liked her home She had a sense of humor. She was spirited, had fought for her life.

And, yeah, she had a sweet body. She made him want things he’d refused to allow himself to want since his wife split. Things he’d forced himself to put on hold.

No, he and Liz Aspen were not through.

Here' is the first kiss from Anne's Courage by Skye Michaels

Jamie Devereau, bad boy billionaire, wants Anne Sutton, the manager of the secret BDSM club located in downtown Ocala, Florida. She has issues due to the fact that after her breast cancer surgery, her fiancé left her in the lurch to face the aftermath and her scars alone. Jamie is not one to let a few years age difference, a few scars or a few bad memories stand in his way. Anne is going to be his, no question about it.

Anne’s Courage by Skye Michaels - Book 3 of the Le Club Series
M/F - BDSM/Erotic Romance/Contemporary/Heat Level: Scorching
http://www.bookstrand.com/annes-courage
When they reached the pond behind Justin=s house, Jamie dismounted and helped Anne down from Jester=s back. ASwing your right leg over his neck to this side and I=ll help you down.@ It was a long way down to the ground. A spike of electrical current ran through her as she put her hands on Jamie=s shoulders and slid down against his body. Her legs were wobbly when she hit the ground and she continued to hold on to him. He pulled her close and lowered his mouth to hers for an exploratory kiss - friendly and exciting. She responded warmly before she had a chance to think about it. God, he feels good! Sturdy and strong, safe and exciting at the same time.
Jamie took Jester to a pasture behind the pond, removed his bridle, and gave him a sugar cube from the supply he had in his jeans pocket. He swatted his butt and turned him loose to graze while they had lunch.
Jamie escorted Anne to the gazebo situated in the center of the pond where Max had set a lovely table. The luncheon was already served - complete with chilled white wine in a cooler. AThis is lovely,@ she said. AMax must be psychic to have this all ready and waiting.@
ANot really. I let him know we were riding down from the barn. Max is good, but he=s not that good!@
Jamie was the perfect host - polite, charming and totally non-threatening - and made her feel at ease. Anne really didn=t know what to expect, especially after his rather outrageous behavior the day before.
AYou really have me confused, Jamie,@ she said. AI don=t know what to expect from you.@
AExpect the unexpected,@ he quipped. AI find you very attractive, Anne, and I=d like to get to know you better,@ he said in his sexiest Southern drawl. AWhy is that confusing?@

She didn’t move, but continued to stare until he
bent his face down to hers. She closed her eyes,
feeling his soft lips envelop hers. The heat of it
spread through her body and her mouth responded,
parting to accept his tongue. It caressed the line of
her lips, sending a shiver through her body.
The book fell, landing with a thud on the floor.

This is from Single Use Only, my m/m contemporary, published by Loose Id earlier this year.

Their first kiss was sweet. Literally. Mike tasted of chocolate and sugar with undertones of beer, which should have been gross but somehow wasn’t.
Chris dived in, tasting, teasing. The stubble of Mike’s goatee tickled his chin. What would it feel like scratching against his belly or the inside of his thigh? His stomach flipped excitedly, and he swung a leg over, straddling Mike.
Big hands gripped his ass and squeezed. Chris went up on his knees and sank his fingers into Mike’s hair. The ponytail was gone, which was kind of a shame; he’d never gotten to see Mike with his hair loose, but he liked the haircut. Short at the back, and soft. He stroked Mike’s nape, loving the way the ends of the freshly cut hair felt against his fingertips.
Mike was participating, letting Chris explore his mouth, but he was holding back. Was he trying to be gentle because Chris was new at this? Or maybe he wasn’t a kisser. Some people weren’t.
Chris pulled away to check Mike’s expression. “Is this okay? Kissing’s good, right?”
“Kissing you is great.” Mike tugged him closer as if afraid he’d change his mind.
No chance of that.

These are all so good! This is from a work in progress, a Regency:

Richard stepped closer, unable to stop himself. His gaze fell to her lips. They were full, wide. Moist from the sweep of her tongue over them just now. His pulse quickened, surprising him. He had to taste them. Taste her. Her brandy-colored eyes widened as he bent his head. His mouth closed over hers, muffling her protest. He raised his hands to cup her face. Such smooth skin. Such softness.

He swept his tongue over her closed lips. She gasped, and he took advantage of her surprise with the precision of a commander used to routing the enemy, but the surprise was his as Charlotte’s hands slid around his neck and she stepped closer. Her soft breasts pressed against his chest and lust slammed through him.

First Kiss from BAD GIRL! (Dominatrix/Cop Romantic Thriller)

Nick grinned and shook his head. “Are you going to be a good girl now?”
Kris took a breath and nodded curtly.
He removed the cuffs.
Kris rubbed her wrists and moved to a chair across from him. They regarded each other silently for some minutes.
“You know,” he said, “You are beautiful, but you’re the worst tempered woman I’ve ever met.”
He moved the cream and lime green hand blown glass bowl Marla had given her for Christmas. Kris kept it precisely in the middle of her square coffee table.
“There’s a solution for that. Just stay the hell away from me.” Kris spoke to Nick, but her gaze was riveted on the glass bowl, now displaced from its perfect symmetry.
“Can’t do that,” he said. “There’s been another homicide and the victim was wearing one of those cute little doggie collars of yours. His appointment calendar had your number in it. So you’re sitting right in the middle of my investigation. This is an official inquiry.”
His casually spoken words twisted her guts. She pressed her lips together and took a deep breath. “Are you going to make me ask his name?”
“Yes.” He was grinning openly.
“Just tell me his name,” she snapped, “and don’t be an ass.”
“Eddleman. Melvin Eddleman,” he said. “You don’t deny knowing him, do you?”
She was silent for a moment, struggling with her gag reflex. “No. He was a client.”
Nick regarded her solemnly. “I have to ask you if you killed Mister Eddleman. I wouldn’t have thought so until your earlier demonstration of strength and agility.”
She glared daggers at him. “I did not. When was Melvin killed?”
“Sometime between midnight and four Thursday morning. He didn’t go in to work or answer his phone so someone from the bank went to his place around noon to see if he was okay. He wasn’t.”
She tried to speak without emotion. “What happened to him?”
“Someone choked him to death and wrapped him up like a mummy in his pissy sheets.”
A strangled whimper escaped her throat. “That’s horrible! I can’t believe it.” A wave of nausea washed over her. “Melvin was a pathetic man. He wouldn’t harm anyone.”
“Shows what you know,” Nick leaned forward. “His employees made a long list of people who’d like to see him dead. Seems like your friend Melvin was a real son-of-a-bitch.”
“He wasn’t my friend.” Unable to restrain herself any longer, she nudged the glass bowl back to the center of the table.
Nick followed her movements intently. He lowered his voice almost to a whisper. “That’s right. You don’t have any friends, do you, Miss ‘I don’t need anybody’?”
“I have friends.”
“Who? I’ve tailed you for days and you haven’t had contact with anyone personally. No lunch with the girls. No date with someone special.”
“I like my life this way. I’m the one in control.”

(Continued from BAD GIRL!)
Nick leaned back against the sofa, regarding her stonily. “From where I sit, it looks like you’ve controlled yourself into a big old box of empty.”
“And what do you have that’s better?” she countered.
He spread his hands. “Nothing. Not a damned thing, but at least I’m willing to put myself out there and be available in case something good comes along.” He stood up and took a few steps toward the door. “If you decide you can be available, come to my place Tuesday night. I won’t pay you. I’ll rent a movie and order pizza. I’ll hold your hand and you can get to know enough about me to decide if you want me as your friend.”
Kris followed behind Nick, anxious for him to be gone. “Just get out!”
Nick turned and cupped her chin in his hand. “You don’t have to wear spandex and you don’t have to bring your bag of tricks. I’ll take you just the way you are.”
He lowered his head slowly and kissed her like he was taking a bite out of her, capturing her mouth with his. His tongue invaded, stroking hers and eliciting a spontaneous reaction. He kissed her hard and deep before he turned and slammed the door behind himself.
Kris swayed slightly, rocked by the sensual impact of Nick’s mouth. Securing both locks, she slid down to the floor. She ran her tongue over her lips, tasting Nick’s rough kiss. Closing her eyes, she laughed as an angry tear rolled down her cheek.
What a total ass!
Except that she had kissed him back.

In my book Night Sins, Harper is a law enforcement officer for the Dead Souls Agency, a sworn enemy of my vampire hero, Egan. Seeking revenge for the death of a young vampire, Egan set a trap for Harper. She’s tied up in a dark warehouse, completely at his mercy. Revenge is a dish best served cold, but Harper is hot and tasty.

BJ McCall

Instead of grabbing her and slamming her back against the wall, the vampire kissed her. His lips moved over hers, gently, but he was wise not to put his tongue in her mouth. He might have fangs, but she had teeth.
He pressed kisses along the column of her neck. Heart pounding and muscles quivering, Harper waited for his vicious bite. Images of her throat torn and her blood spilling flashed in her brain. Make it quick.
To her surprise he wrapped his arms around her and drew her tight against him. "You're so warm, soft and warm."
Harper's retort about his cold skin died. She gasped at the pinpricks breaking her skin and cried out, more in fear than in pain. His fangs sank into her flesh.
This was it, how her life would end. Her fellow officers would find her half naked and chained.
Her muscles jerked. Heat shot through her. Her heart slammed against her chest wall.
The vampire stroked her back, calming her. He didn't rip her skin or tear at her throat. He suckled, gently. Taking his time. Drinking her blood.
Euphoria replaced fear. The furious pounding of her heart subsided. He withdrew his fangs and licked her neck. Weightless and woozy, Harper slumped against the vampire's chest.

Divorced mother of 2, Tegan O'Neil has put on a costume and done a sexy stripper routine for a client of her "events" business she co-owns with her best friend. It was to celebrate a birthday party, and the client asked her to supply a stripper but suburban moms have no idea where to find them, nor could they afford one! Tegan got so aroused doing her dancing that when the client, one sexy Hispanic alpha male, the brother-in-law of another of her friends, seemed moved to want to dance WITH her, she almost let him. Danger! When the music stopped she ran back to the office she'd changed in, but he followed her...

She almost ran, as best she could in four-inch heels, down the hall to the manager’s office, where she had been allowed to change into her dancing clothes. There wasn’t anyone in the office now, and her other clothes were where she had left them, on a couch in the waiting room outside the manager’s inner office. By the light coming in from the door open to the hallway, she saw the desk where a secretary sat during the day, and she threw the boom box and the sunglasses down on the desktop and turned on a small light, then turned to go back to close the door, so she could change her clothes. She kicked off her shoes as she turned around, then she froze.
Alexander now stood in the doorway, and whether it was a trick of the light, or the apprehension she immediately felt, he seemed to take up all of the door space, and to block the light. He wordlessly entered the room and closed the door behind him. Then he turned and in a few quick long strides, he was directly in front of her. She realized that she was shaking, and not from the cold. Heat radiated from him to her, and she was unable to move or to speak. Then he raised his hand to brush her wig’s long blonde hair back from her shoulder, and she saw that his hand was shaking as well.
He now raised that hand and gently placed it under her chin, and raised her face to look directly into his eyes. Passion had darkened them so much that there was no color visible in them anymore. He lowered his head and brushed his lips gently against hers; it felt like a question, and she wasn’t sure how to respond. She stopped breathing for a heartbeat. Then sweat broke out all over her body, and she surrendered to what she most wanted to do at that moment: she pressed herself against the length of his body, and wrapped her arms around his back, up and under his shirt, to feel the hard muscles coiled under the skin of his shoulders and his back. She tore open the buttons as her hands circled around to the front of him; his dark body hair inflamed her, making her rub her face on it, and lick at his muscular chest.
With a low groan, he took her wordless surrender for what it was, and his hands moved all over her body, as he traced her curves, setting her on fire wherever he touched, pulling her close and pressing her against his insistent erection. His lips were busy also, kissing and licking his way across her face to her neck, to her ear, then to her shoulder, as he expertly undid her bra with one hand, then used the other hand to slide the strap off on one side, then the other, setting her breasts free.

From The Rescued Heart, The Wild Rose Press

“Open your eyes.”
Ellen gasped. Shallow tiers of stone seating rose in a semicircle in front of them. They walked across the flat stone stage, across the sandy arena, and climbed to sit at the very top of the amphitheatre, where the stone was warm against their backs and legs. She was panting slightly, and noticed his breathing was unaffected.
They drank bottles of water from his satchel. He poured some of the remaining water into her cupped hands and she splashed her face and neck, turning her face to the sun to dry off. “I’ve seen places like this on television. I’ve never seen one for real. How old is it?”
He patted the stone blocks. “It’s Roman. If you sat through a performance here, the stones would soon remind you this is two thousand years old.
“Performance? You’re kidding me.” From where they sat, the flat stage was tiny. “You wouldn’t hear anything up here.”
“Wait.” He loped down the stairs again, and strode to the middle of the stage. “Can you hear me?”
A few picnickers and sightseers turned to look up at her. Embarrassed, she signalled to him to come back.
“Helen,” Christian called. His voice rose easily to her, reverberating from the solid steps. “Meine schöne Helena, ich hab di gärn.” A ripple of laughter floated round the arena. More people turned to look and a young woman waved at her.
When he bounded up the steps again, she asked, “What was that you said?”
“Ich hab di gärn.” His eyes were teasing. “I will explain only if you agree to see me tomorrow.” When she shook her head, he leant forwards and kissed her.
Under the gentle pressure of his lips, Ellen surrendered.
Down below, someone whistled and clapped.

“You just don’t have any imagination.” Fran bit the bottom off of her cone then sucked ice cream out through the hole. She stopped when she noticed Leo watching her.
“I have imagination alright,” he said in a low voice.
Fran was all too conscious of their close proximity. Maybe now would be a good time to talk about slowing things down; keeping them at a more casual level. She popped the last bite of her cone into her mouth and wiped it with a paper napkin.
“You still have a little . . .”
“Where?” She flipped down the visor and looked at her reflection in the mirror. A dollop of vanilla sat at the corner of her mouth.
“Here. Let me.”
Instead of using the napkin she held out, Leo leaned in and removed the ice cream with the tip of his tongue.
Oh God, he was making a move. Wasn’t he? Yes, yes he was and despite her resolve to keep things casual Fran wanted him to. She wanted more than watching old movies alone; to being alone; more than good night kisses.
He pulled back. “Fran, I-”
“Missed a spot? Definitely.” She grasped a fist full of his collar in each hand and pulled him down until their lips met again. It had been a long time since she’d been kissed like this, but she had a vague memory of how it worked.
Their lips touched once, twice. Fran released his shirt and slid her arms around his neck, tilting her head to the side. He placed a hand on her back and pulled her closer.
She felt overwhelmed by the sensory overload. The lingering scent of buttered popcorn. The minty chocolate chip ice cream he’d eaten. The warmth of his hand sliding up and down her back. Fran’s breathing quickened. Her fingers tingled and the inside of the car grew hot.

Excerpt from Stubborn Hearts, Historical Romance by Carol Ritten Smith

Beth watched the blacksmith swallow his cookie, brush away the crumbs from his mouth and run his tongue over his teeth as he sauntered toward her. By the time she realized his intentions, it was too late to escape. He grasped her gently by her shoulders and whispered, “Mistletoe. I’d be less than a man if I let this opportunity pass by.”
Panic coursed through her as he leaned forward, closer and closer, until his slate blue eyes nearly filled her vision. And then her own eyes closed just as naturally as she breathed and she felt his lips gently press against hers for a few seconds.
Peppermint. He smelled of icy peppermint, though his lips were anything but icy cool. They were soft and warm, and her stomach did a wonderful little flip-flop. So this is what it’s like to be kissed by a man. Rather nice. Her lips turned up slightly. I feel so . . . so tingly all over.
A second kiss brought Beth abruptly from her reverie. Her eyes popped open to find, not Tom’s, but Earl’s face lifting away from hers. She blushed profusely as chaotic thoughts coursed across her mind. What had Earl thought as she stood there with her eyes closed? Did he presume she was waiting for a Christmas kiss from him also? Across the kitchen, Tom leaned against the dry sink, his arms crossed in front of him, and an amused smirk upon his face.
