Better Left Unsaid Wednesday!

Our Wednesday meme highlights those thought bubbles over our characters' heads. Do they say one thing and think another? Do they inwardly muse, ponder, laugh, fret, jeer, doubt, rage etc?

In comments, and in 300 words or less, give us a snippet from your novel that describes what your heroes, heroines, or bit players are thinking. If you are unable to post thoughts in italics, wrap their thoughts with *   * so they're easy to spot. Don't forget your buy link and website/blog link. Have fun!

I wasn’t scared, since Dad told me about the need to take a psi exam. The Aleyni checked for any kind of plant or animal, or whether we planned a terrorist attack. Dad said Federation anti-psi fanatics attacked a couple of times recently, so I understood why they checked carefully.
The examiner set me in a chair. He asked me again if I consented to the exam. When I said yes, the examiner put his hands on the sides of my face, looking into my eyes.
**His hands burned hot against my skin. A thousand ants chewed through my brain and a voice whispered questions I couldn’t quite make out. I tried to take a breath, but my throat tightened, and I gasped aloud. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to stop shaking. I shook my head, trying to make the voices go away, and the examiner removed his hands and stared into my eyes for a moment. The buzzing voices stopped, leaving my head feeling as though it would burst open. The examiner smiled at me and passed me through the checkpoint. A couple of minutes went by before my stomach stopped heaving, but hammers still pounded inside my head.**
Afterward, we walked through the spaceport. I stopped short and stared. I’d never seen a more beautiful place. The flowers planted around the gray port buildings waved in the light breeze, and the air smelled like cinnamon and cloves. Warm sun beat down on my head, and the sound of birds cawing reached my ears. I took a breath of spicy air. The twist in my gut relaxed.

Cody Montgomery has taken bridal designer, DeeDee, to a restaurant to meet with the mayor Larry Krabbits over a piece of city owned property in an area that the city wants developed into an industrial park. Chrisy is her PR man and yes Chrisy is a male. LOL I'll explain that another time.

The whole way over DeeDee pictured a man who either looked like a crab or a rabbit. She smiled. **Cranky rabbit.** His squashed nose, probably from a bad break, looked too small for his face, and his eyes were close-set and beady. She offered her hand. "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Krabbits. I've never lived anywhere that has been as warm and welcoming."
He took her hand and looked her over as if undressing her. "Very pleased to make your acquaintance. Heard you got quite an operation going."
**He's got the teeth for a rabbit.**
Cody edged her over [in the booth] so that he was sitting almost opposite Larry and she was crammed against the wall. She unbuttoned her coat and inched her way out of it.
She listened to Cody and smiled at the cranky rabbit with two front teeth that almost crossed at the bottom. To call the man homely was either a compliment or an understatement.
A pitcher of beer appeared with glasses and Cody poured for everyone.
She briefly looked at the menu when the waitress began to take their order. "I'll have the…" Her eyes scanned the page one more time. "The Ruben"
"Chips, fries or onion rings?"
"Onion rings" **What have I done?** She sipped her beer. "May I have some lemon wedges?"
The woman looked at her slightly confused. "For your sandwich?"
She smiled at the young thing who showed plenty of cleavage. "For my beer."
"Whatever."
A few minutes later, a small bowl appeared with several wedges of lemon in it. DeeDee picked one up and squeezed the citrus wedge into her glass of beer. Cody did the talking and she realized he was trying to convince the mayor not only to give her a deal on a piece of property, but get the city to invest in the building, plus give her a huge tax break.
"Look what she's done in a few months. She's got over fifty employees…"
**Yeah, if you count the piece workers at home.**
"She's revamped a rundown piece of property that has sat idle for over a decade and turned it into a showplace…
**About that rundown piece of property you sold me…**
"Look at the traffic she's bought to the hotel. This is not a little business. She's got her New York debut bridal show coming up and a spread in every bridal magazine known.
**Not hardly. What spread? Have you been talking to Chrisy? Is that why he hasn't answered my email?**

Extract from False Pretences

A Regency Novel

Miss Chalfont stood, walked round her desk, and patted Annabelle’s shoulder before resting her hand on it. ‘My dear child, there is little for you to consider. ‘I dread to think of the consequences if you disobey your guardian. You could be cast penniless from here with only the clothes on your back. After all, your guardian does have complete power over you.’
Annabelle wanted to jerk away from her uncaring teacher’s hand, but forced herself to remain passive. She did not want the woman to suspect the nature of her rebellious thoughts and have her closely watched. Inwardly she seethed and decided that whatever the cost she would escape the fate in store for her. An image of her former nurse, with whom she corresponded, flashed through her mind. With it came a sense of security and purpose.

From my new historical romance release, UPON YOUR HONOR (Book 2 of the Heiresses in Love series):

When she opened them again, he was leaning over her. No, something else was happening. She couldn’t tell what it was, but she liked it. And then, her body nearly screamed with ecstasy. She cried out, unable to keep quiet.
There was a strange knocking sound that interrupted the intimacy of the moment.
Chloe jerked awake, her breaths labored. She put a hand over her racing heart. She gasped, trying to get her breath under control. Her skin felt incredibly warm, and she could hardly believe how fanciful her mind had become.
The knocking came again. She blinked and looked at the door dully for a moment. Then she realized someone was there. Chloe smoothed her hair and dress, and went to answer the door on legs that were leaden.
The man who stood on the other side took her breath away. She blinked a bit, taken back for a second to the dream. She shook it off though, and tried to compose herself. “Yes?” she asked hoarsely.
Gabriel frowned. “I came to fetch you for dinner. We’ll dine with my father, if you would like, this evening.”
“Oh. Yes, that is fine.”
He lifted a brow. “I thought I heard something just now. Did you fall?”
She frowned. “What do you mean?”
“You were yelling.”
A hand covered her mouth. Had she been vocal with her dream? How embarrassing. “Oh, I did not realize so much time had passed. Truly, I did not. I was resting.”
“Oui, but I heard—”
“It was nothing. A dream.”
He frowned. “A nightmare? Do you want to talk about it?”
She shook her head. “I barely remember it.” That wasn’t likely to happen. She could hardly get those images out of her head as he stood before her. His presence made it impossible.
