Author Interview: Michelle Roth

Exquisite Quills Welcomes Michelle Roth

EQ: Welcome to EQ! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Michelle: Well, my name is Michelle Roth. I am 30-something and live in Los Angeles with my fantastic boyfriend and our equally fantastic cats. In addition to my passion for writing, I love to read, cook and travel.

EQ:Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

Michelle: My most recent release is Lip Service, part of my Private Relations series. It's the quintessential “falling for your brother's best friend” story, but with some very kinky twists. The characters, Chris and Chloe are equal parts sweet and exasperating as they stumble through the complicated process of falling in love.

EQ: What has been the most exquisite moment of your life?

Michelle: Publishing my first book. It still feels pretty surreal, even now. I've always been an avid reader, but one day I just sat down and said, “Hey. Maybe I could do this.”

EQ: Which of your characters do you connect with the most and why?

Michelle: There are pieces of me in each of my characters. I have Sara's snark, Chloe's pragmatism, and Elle's sense of duty and responsibility. I connect with them all on a lot of different levels. I'd have to say, Chloe overall though. :)

EQ: Describe how you create characters.

Michelle: A pet peeve of mine is when the main characters of books are awful people. Men that hit women (in a non consensual way), whiny women who can't do things for themselves. When I write a character, I want them to be real, but ultimately.. if I would never hang out with this person, I'm certainly not going to be able to write 50k words about them.
