This is from, Honorable Rancher, available as a stand-alone novel but also just re-released in the 2-in-1 anthology, In the Rancher's Care.

Ben Sawyer has been in love with Dana Wright since kindergarten, but she grew up and married his best friend. She is now a single mom but, as the widow of their town’s military hero, she is even more off-limits to Ben.

(Note: *** used for italics.)

From Honorable Rancher:

***Once upon a time, in the Land of Enchantment—otherwise known as the state of New Mexico—Benjamin Franklin Sawyer had high hopes and a huge crush on the girl who sat one desk over from him in their classroom every day.

The crush continued for a good long while.

As for Ben's hopes***...well, not every story had a happy ending.

Both Honorable Rancher and In the Rancher’s Care can be found at your favorite bookseller.

With one undead and the other full of fire, they had two choices—fight dirty and love madly. My snippet is from Dirty Rotten Vampires 2, Love Me Madly --

“There’s a spider in here.” Yeah, I’ve lost it. Screwing with Vigier was not wise, but the only thing Split feared at the moment was going fuck-nuts if he didn’t get the hell out of the City of Brotherly Love.

Available at: http://www.amazon.com/Love-Madly-Dirty-Rotten-Vampires-ebook/dp/B00SI6IQFY along with the first book in the series, Hold Me Hard: http://www.amazon.com/Hurt-Good-Dirty-Rotten-Vampires-ebook/dp/B00PG1Y1W6.

Lydia's Gunslinger by Julie Lence

"You own women!" Lydia shot up from her seat.
"I have a contract with the doves 'til November." Roth eased her back down. "I don't hurt them. And I don't let anybody else hurt them."
"That's supposed to make owning them right?"
"Had I been born with money like you, things would be different. But I wasn't. Be glad about that. I can help you with Cooper."
"I don't need your help."
"You little fool." He chuckled.

This is a snippet from my contemporary romantic suspense, A SPELL IN PROVENCE.
He looked down. The light of the rising sun played on his face and made his green eyes seem deep and warm. Time slowed down. The noise from the crowd became muffled and distant, and all she could hear was the crystalline spring water trickling in the old fountain. The spring that ran through the forest between Manoir Coste and Bellefontaine and bound hearts and lives together, or so the spell said … Her heartbeat slowed, or maybe it stopped altogether. It was as if Fabien and she were alone. Desire, fear and another feeling she didn’t recognise overwhelmed her and made her dizzy.

This is from my soon to be released Western historical.

*The world around him was nothing but a crackling hot glow, filled with smoke and the stench of lost dreams.*

Each book stands alone, but I'll suggest reading A RANCHER'S WOMAN while waiting for this next one to be released.

Unexpected Legacy by Darlene Deluca. Fiction with romantic elements.

"Rumors like what? That you're a woman who's more than the professional robot who marches around here in buttoned-up suits and heels making sure everyone follows the rules?"
He regretted the words the instant they left his mouth.
She blanched as if he'd slapped her.

From the first Gaslight Mystery, Heart to Hart. A bit more than 3 sentences, but they're short and sweet.

There, like a grizzly bear immersed in a tiny honey pot, sat Michael McCree in the small claw footed bathtub.

Again Simon felt the pounding of blood in his face and he turned to leave.

“Nay, Simon. Bolt the goddamn door, man, an’ stay. We don’t have all day to bugger around with fine courtesies.”

“I…am sorry…about last night.”

“Get in the tub, lad.”

“No, I—”

“Damn ye, Simon, grow a pair of testicles, will ye? Do I look like a mad rapist?”

When her arms go around me, I give in and let her pull me up to face her. She nuzzles not touching; she can't do that since the chemo is toxic, sort of like an uber-bad poison ivy that you can get from anything I excrete.
But her warm breath, smelling of that wintergreen gum she chews all the time, puffing against my cheek, then my neck, and over my shoulder feels wonderful.

From A Question of Fire by Karen McCullough
(Romantic Suspense)

Another rustle shook the bushes, followed by a sudden, sharp crack which reverberated for a few seconds afterward. Bobby groaned and collapsed, sagging against Cathy. The abrupt burden of his weight drove her to the ground, where she found herself half crushed by the young man's bulk. She moved out from under him, a rush of adrenalin sharpening her senses so that she could hear, over Bobby's ragged breathing, the squish of a footstep in the shrubbery and the churning of leaves and branches fading rapidly as the gunman retreated.

From "Fifty Shades of Valentine's Day" by Katherine Kingston
from the Naughty Hearts Anthology

“The c…car. You’ve seen.” Melissa didn’t usually stutter, but her brain had apparently shorted out. “I’m so…sorry.”
“I should hope so.”
“I’ll pay for repairs. Make it as good as new. I pro…promise.”
“You will.” He looked around her sort-of neat apartment. “No question about that. But I’m guessing you don’t want to involve the police or insurance companies?”
The deep, sexy, stern voice almost mesmerized her. Shivers ran up and down her spine in response to it. Melissa drew in a deep breath before she answered. “I’d rather not.”
