The opening lines of chap. 7, THE KILT COMPLEX. One lover hurts another, but damn, he just has to move out so he can stretch a little ...

Now that he was alone, Alex found himself wishing he’d said something more to Rory, at least a hint of his plans. Tough guy hurt. He’d seen it in the pucker of his brows. He’d read it deep in the green eyes, in the way he worried one end of his mustache, in a hundred subtle signs.

But he knew a deeper hurt would come soon enough. Might as well send him to the mat for the TKO instead of jabbing the man ’til he was too bruised to stay on his feet.

Debra's Bandit; Chapter 3, Scene 1

"Are you jealous?" Debra asked, smiling a bit too sweetly.
"No," Gage gritted. Yes. "Since your brother ain't here, it's up to me to watch over you. He ain't gonna be too happy if I let some stranger sniff around your skirts."
"He wasn't doing any such thing. He was asking for directions to the mayor's house."
She turned and wielded the featherduster along the display case and Gage balled up his hand tight, itching to plow his fist into the stranger's face. Or any man who made Debra's copper eyes soften with feeling.

Stolen Hearts Book 1 - Romantic Suspense

She landed on the concrete with a thump, then removed her mask. Usually she worked at night when the catering gig didn’t provide the necessary cover, but she had a date this evening.
A blind date.

Seeking Love (Emerging From Darkness Book 1)
by J.M. Maurer

“The worst day of my life started out like any other. When I opened my eyes this morning, I was excited and brimming with happiness, exuberant even, fully ready to take on the day. Then without warning, a vortex of darkness swirled around me, taunting me with its thick black smoke rolling in from all directions, sucking the life right out of me.”

The Cowboy's Little Surprise:

As Tina turned another page in the book she hadn’t been able to focus on, she heard boot steps on the stairs leading up to her attic room. They weren’t Jed’s slow, measured steps but another, lighter tread that had become just as familiar to her.

As she rested the book in her lap and focused on the open door, her heart suddenly felt a bit lighter, too.

From THE BEACHCOMBERS by Stephanie Queen
a Romantic Suspense novel

"So far Shana’s first undercover assignment held about as much promise as her first attempt to capture a rabid kangaroo on the loose.
She had not expected, after flying all the way from Sydney to London—Goddamn London—in a state of heart-stopping excitement about her brand new post, that she would be ordered that same day to leave and fly to Boston. Goddamn Boston. Then adding to her travel torture, she’d raced across Logan Airport to board a shuttle plane to fly her to the tiny island of Martha’s Vineyard. All for the purpose of ending up on another beach, with another surfboard, about to prance around in yet another bikini. Fifty-six excruciating hours and over two thousand witless miles later."

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET by Sophia Ryan

Nick touched his lips to mine, just touched, but that tiny touch sparked a need so strong in me I knew this one simple kiss wouldn’t be enough. I opened my mouth to him, hoping he’d be able to translate the little mewling moan that escaped my throat as “more.” Lucky me. He did.

Stallion of Ash and Flame

First three lines ~

Chapter One ~ Her Hired Hand

Southeast corner of Arizona, Spring 2009

Trail rapped his knuckles on the splintery wood of the ranch house’s front door and made a mental note to replace it. The instant Seneca moved to answer, he gathered her fragrance into his nostrils, then let the blazing rose and gingery spice of her womanly flesh course through him. He suppressed his urge to breathe in her scent more fully.

Here are the opening lines from my contemporary romance FIRST AND AGAIN:

It was official. She’d hit rock bottom.

Bridget Grant sighed as she wiped the sticky remains of spilled beer and nacho cheese sauce from one of the tables. Was this what her life had come down to? Serving wench in her mother’s bar?

From opening chapter of Victorian time travel romance, Thoroughly Modern Amanda.

Amanda Montgomery paced the main office of The Carver Weekly. For the past three months, she’d held a position of feature writer and office assistant at the small town newspaper.

Stepping toward the supervising editor’s office, she scowled through the glass-topped door at the massive mahogany desk where Mr. Randolph Norwood worked.

This is from a WIP called, Angels and Demons, Book 1 of The JR Chronicles. It's the first four lines of Chapter 1.

Jasper Ryan did this.

The note was scrawled in blood on the floor next to the last victim. Now that may be all well and good but there was just one major aspect wrong with that revelation.

Jasper Ryan had been dead for a hundred years.

Find more about this new series at www.thejrchronicles.com as I reveal more about the two main characters this month.

This is from my fantasy romance: Passion's Sacred Dance (Celtic Stewards Chronicles, book one), Chapter Five:

The calendar was against him. Aaron had to act fast, but he couldn’t do as Isaac suggested. He couldn’t just seduce Stacy. It may be an immediate answer but it would be unfair. Worse, it might cause her to hate him forever, which had never once happened in a steward-guardian affair, had it?

Passion's Sacred Dance is available at Amazon,
Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.
