From Prince Charming Wore Spurs
Author: Nan O'Berry
Publisher: Prairie Rose Publications

Staring straight ahead, Delaney Holmes waited for the carousel to spit out her luggage. She was tired—not so much from the flight, but the lengths she'd gone through not to be recognized, for once in her life. So far, this half-baked idea had worked like a charm.

The opening lines, Chap. 3 of my new release HUNTER'S POINT:

Alex filled the road back to Ethie Wood with thoughts of tide pools, hidden clues, pale fingers clutched on a thin shawl.

At this early point in their investigation, he couldn’t possibly know that something … something very troubling had happened to Archer Stewart. But he sensed it, in the bone-deep place his hunches always started.

He toys with his wine glass, staring at me from across the café. Every memory of the breakup with Claude leaves my mind no matter that it happened ten minutes ago. I should be devastated, shouldn't I? I had been until my gaze meets the stranger's.

I hadn’t been on a date, let alone a blind date, for so many years, I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to act.

Brooke and Carly had offered to help, to give me moral support--which I knew was their way of making sure I actually went.

But I'd told them I felt like I had to do this by myself--which meant I was seriously thinking of calling in sick.

Erin James sipped her second margarita and tried to drum up the enthusiasm to ask the attractive man sitting across from her to fuck her.

This is what you wanted, she reminded herself, Handsome, tall, not a serial killer, and he looks like he might know what he’s doing in bed…

She sighed, feeling more than a little guilty that her bar had slipped so low.

Daisy's Dilemma, London 1822
Chapter 4
Daisy sat at the bottom of a formal table opposite Toby. Ranked along the sides were her newly arrived relatives from Edinburgh and two other families from the north. Aunt Mathilde sat at Toby’s right hand, displacing and displeasing her aunt, Lady Beatrice, who was on his left. Despite the coolness of their parting earlier, she was very relieved Reuben had returned to the house for dinner.

First Line of Chapter 6.

"God she's beautiful." That was a prayer of thanks as much as it was a cry of amazement, and the words rang out loudly in Mark' mind.

Opening lines from my Civil War romance novella, Cole's Promise.

Cole Manning crouched behind a fragrant, flowering bush, the sweet, cloying smell mixing with the scent of pine. Pistol at eye level, he peered through the forest for any sign of a Confederate patrol. His squad stayed behind him, out of sight, their rifles on the ground by their sides, per his order.

When Alex awoke the next morning, he was horny. The play of silk as he turned over in bed caused a warmth to build low in his belly almost immediately. It was a sense of anticipation, but not release.

The Possession

When a frantic 9-1-1 call came into the police station at 8:30 p.m. on July 7, 2009, a sobbing twenty-nine-year-old Valerie Harris told the dispatcher she wanted desperately to save the life of her bleeding father, Harry Ridge. She gave the operator her apartment address. She would later tell authorities that she did not want to kill her sexually abusive father, but only to disable his weapon of abuse-his penis.

Novel: Sophronia and the Vampire
Author: Jacqueline Farrell
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

As soon as I turned off the main highway I knew I was in trouble. The mist rolled in from the sea in a manner I’d only seen in old black and white horror movies, the sort Roman had loved. We always watched them late at night curled up next to each other while I kept my hands over my eyes and he roared with laughter.

Lingering exhaustion from the breakdown yesterday fell away one piece at a time as he gave her a tour of Adventure. Not a bad idea to try looking at the world through her eyes. He needed to remember how important it was not to make snap judgments about people.

Kerry Marchant studied Jess out of the corner of
his eye while ostensibly examining the circuitry in one of the control panels on the flight deck. But of course they'd had no option.

My villainess in Farewell to Kindness entertains.

The boy was enthusiastic, but unskilled and undisciplined. He grunted and heaved over Lydia, striving for his own completion without regard to hers. He would improve with a little tutoring, however.

FRESH BEGINNINGS

Ivy's heart was still pounding like she'd completed a marathon. She'd promised herself that she'd be over men. There was no way she'd wanted to be lured by a man's touch, or by his words, let alone by his kisses.
Inhaling a deep breath, she watched him for a moment, staring into those beautiful eyes. The eyes of a stranger. A stranger from the end of the world. Literally!
